Can we get something better than standing still and casually waving our hand? Anyone else feel like it’s to… Passive? I mean very little to no animation on anything besides auto attack… I think there should be a bit more oomph to it. Granted staff on a mes feels pretty nonchalant in itself but it doesn’t need to look that way, esp in a game where endgame is carried by aesthetics.

Also can Chaos armor get a rework? a stack of confusion and a bit of protection doesn’t add up much for a defensive skill if you just ate 5k to proc it. >>

Chaos armor is epic… No need for any change.
You can make anything sound bad.

I can give you tons of examples where it did it’s job and made me survive.

I get bursted by DPS guard, I get protection which reduces the damage I take by 33%, he gets blind spammed which makes 1 out of every 3 attacks miss cca. I just saved 5k+ HP.

I’m getting low and need to run away, enemy is faster than me, melee class, I pop CA, get swiftness, enemy gets cripple. I outrun him by a mile and easily escape, saving my life.

Staff doesn’t seem passive to me. Not too sure what you mean by that.
Animations are perfectly fine IMO, though I do agree I feel like the way human male holds a staff is a bit weird, but doesn’t really matter that much to me.

Your examples of making things sound bad lacks context. They are facts that do make something seem unappealing yes. But none of them represent a negative/hindering outcome. “22 grown men running around after a ball” can still be fun regardless. “A Mac is generally an inferior option for gaming than a PC at a higher price point.” Not only renders one option redundant, but is both unappealing and has a negative.

But regardless lets talk mechanics. VS medi guard burst I’d find that highly unlikely, If you proc protection that’ll turn a 2k crit into a 1.3k crit which yes is nice, but you will not be blind spamming.

In one cast of chaos armor you have a max of 3 procs due to the internal c/d, and unless really well timed, and depending on the rate of fire from certain attacks the average is only about 2. So from the full combo you mitigate at most 3 hits after eating 3 attack on a combo that relies on a lot of small hits that pile up to be effective, and a lot of the damage can be done during the internal cooldowns, esp on a typical glass cannon spec… And this is not even taking randomness into account.

“1 out of every 3 attacks miss” Well if that was true in 10 hits within 5 seconds you’d be looking at a lot less than -3 hits which would be nice, but isn’t the case. (unless there some buff I’m unaware of and haven’t noticed since they nerfed the protection on cast)

The way I look at every skill in this game is 3 categories: Does it apply pressure? Does it reduce preassure? Does it have utility? Or some balance between such. As an activate able defensive skill it does very little of each.

At a base 35 c/d you get very little compared to other defensive skills with similar c/ds such as: shield stance, arcane aura, shield of wrath, and Gear Shield has an even better c/d. Hell even Fire aura applies more pressure, and is more akin to how CA functions.

I think the activate able skill on staff should have a different name, and be more effective than the base aura. I have no problem with CA being a combo finisher (although I do think it’s inferior to the others) however I think it does not deserve a weapon slot unbuffed.

imo CA is worse than having light aura on a 30+ second cool down taking up a weapon skill slot.

Suggestions:

1. 3 second block that applies conditions OR boons per hit (no internal c/d.) Not both per block, one of something per hit. – This standardizes the way it can be used, takes the randomness out but at the same time leaves random variables in. Gives Mes better options against a few of it’s hard counters making it more viable. Rename: Chaos barrier

2. Damage done, is transferred to a random illusion per hit. Duration 5s. during the duration illusions are immune to direct damage. Rename: Mind Shield/Barrier – Reduces pressure and makes use of mesmer mechanics. Also forces shatter spec into a situation where it has to think “Ok is it safe to shatter?”

3. Chaos armor change: Remove the “on hit” effect for boons have it proc 1 boon every second. (akin to Chaos storm) – This wont relieve to much pressure, but at least keeping with the theme it still gives you enough breathing room to engage, at the very least makes it a bit more worth a weapon skill.

I’m mostly in favor of 1 tho. :p

Just on the note of chaos armor, it’s an incredibly weak skill considering the cooldown. It would need to have ~15-20 second cooldown for it to be decent, or just boost the skill itself in some way (the same needs to be done with fire shield for ele).

IMO it’s not bad. I actually like the asuran (same as Human Male) animations for staff, the casual pointing death&mayhem at my targets fits well with my character.

I have a much bigger problem with the GS#1 animation for Asura. -.-
