Staff Mesmer = No badges of honor?
You’re not doing enough damage to tag kills. Class can do damage but it’s hard to beat people out without a build / gear that really highlights condition damage.
Join a group.
Use direct damage – GS / Sword
Get better gear
So, basically i can only play 1 way/build/weapon in wvw or i wont get credit? Even if im currently helping my teammates by giving them boons? That really sucks. I thought I was gonig to be able to play my character however I wanted.
The theory is that if you’re doing heavy support – buff / cc / heal – you need to be in a group.
I use the staff. I mostly do support. I wish it were different but that’s the state of the game. If I want to tag mobs I play ele / ranger.
so if im grouped with guildies and im using a staff, they kill guys and ill get badges too?
If you’re in a zerg, you’re not going to deal enough damage to get badges often. If you’re playing support then you should be playing with a group of people. It doesn’t make that much sense anyways to be randomly applying boons to the crowd. When you’re in a smaller group of people, it’s not that much of a hindrance to be dealing less damage. You do need to be doing some amount of damage though. No class is meant to exclusively support others.
We also have a couple of great skills/traits for reflecting projectiles which can help with the damage you do. It isn’t as direct but if you really want to stick with support it’s probably the best way a mesmer can support, and it can be super effective if you do it properly. If you’re not willing to switch for another weapon like the focus now and then in WvW, I’d say you’re holding onto your staff a little too stubbornly. Utilizing both weapon sets is always important.
Where are your traits focused, anyways?

I was runnin staff in wvw. It has its uses, sure, but sometimes you find yourself in that situation where you just dont have enough time to peg people enough or what have you.
Swapped to GS with full berserker’s — was able to shatter and dish out quite a bit of damage much quicker. Got quite a few more badges than when I ran with staff.
The way the game rewards you is incredibly screwed up and poorly designed. Same issues Warhammer had, you would think Anet would’ve learned from it, but I guess not.
Last night I farmed the Kodash zerg with a 8-10 man team as a staff / sword pistol shatter mesmer. Got ower 200 badges in a few hours. Have fotage and a guild pvp movie will be posted later today as its rendering atm. Its absolutley possible to get badges as staff. Tbh alot of the qq about mesmers dmg/rewards/viability in pve/pvp is based on a missunderstood usage of the class.
Rethink the whole wvwvw consept, get a 5 man team and mesmers are GOD,s on the battlefield. Again fotage comming. Had a cuple of fights when we killed 20+ players with a 8 man team.

^ Short answer is that you’re not playing like Osicat, but don’t let that discourage you.

Spec heavy power, clone on dodge, and use lots of shatters. That should do enough to tag the mobs necessary to score a tag (and a decent participation medal where applicable). Weapon has nothing to do with it.
But agreed, they have a balancing issue with DE’s and WE’s where glass cannons get the prizes while support keep their sorry butts alive.
They will fix it, i’m sure, once they get everything working properly in everyone’s trait lines first.
@Snow White
You aren’t doing anything wrong, it’s just the peeps that you support haven’t understood yet that it’s about time they let you finish peeps regularly so you too receive your share of goodies. They could aslo try to slow down their dps on NPC’s to give you the time to do some dps to have your share of loot.
Solutions
1. Don’t support anymore and go full dps and become part of the main problem
2. Find new peeps to support that will help you get your share of goodies
3. Live with it but make it clear to everyone that they shouldn’t count on you for siege, upgrades, whatever.
4. Credit Card
Thanks for all the replies guys. I’m sort of bummed hat I wont be able to use staff in wvw since its my fave weapon, but I appreciate all the advice. Guess I’ll pick up a GS.
I got that when I was farming WvW to buy shoulders. It took me two weeks to get 291 badges and on the last day while I made 20 badges a warrior friend casually mentioned he had made 63 in the same time span.
Now this… is pretty weird. I was taking half the HP of enemies at times with a simple GS 2 + 4 + Shatter, killed plenty, and even so most of my badges were crappy white gear, grey vendor trash and sometimes blues and greens with a trickle of badges.
Badges are account bound correct? maybe ill just make a warrior and level her up through wvw?

Thats what I did, sucks but it’s the best solution atm if you want to keep your mesmer support.
Hmm,
Not sure why anyone cares about Badges while using a support build.
WvW badge gear = no condition damage = support build sucks dick.
EasymodeX is right. There’s nothing save siege equipment that you should get with badges that you’d need as a mesmer. If you’re having fun playing staff…. play with staff man. You dont need badges.
The rules are what they are. If you’re playing a heavy support build, it’s more fun in a group anyway.
As you point out, many things are account bound or not bound as all. If I were truly farming ad nauseum, I’d use another class.
Need 500 badges towards legendary staff.
I play lots of defense and Staff/support. Do feel that pain of not getting badges like you. I have noticed that you can sometimes get badges and siege plans from supply camps so I focus on them a lot more often now. Since they are usually smaller skirmishes, less people can do them and the zerg is off doing what the zerg does anyway so they won’t get in your way.
