I recently just started the game, the thief totally got me really bored. I now want to start a mesmer but im having a tough time picking out a race, as all of them are beneficial. What is your race ? and what’s a good suggestion for a starter * did not play GW1

well, my mesmer is Norn, female… why? cause it looks good, that’s it, we got pretty good Elite skills, so racials are rarelly used

Suggestions? hmm i think the best suggestion i could give is, play as YOU want, dont look for cookie-cutter builds, you will perform better if you play it the way that suits your taste the most

I love the asurans and their attitude fits beautifully with my mesmer attitude. When my mesmer solo’s a champion, right after the body falls to the ground she crosses her arms and looks at with an appropriate thought that nothing is a champion compared to a mesmer

I’m a Greatsword / Staff shatter monkey. I dodge around constantly which is fun and active. Don’t listen to all the doom and gloom on GS. Yes it has bugs and needs to be fixed, but it’s not as doomed as what people say.

The thing I will say is that mesmers really don’t get their shine until around level 30-40. I am not saying those early levels are terrible, but once i hit around 40 you can really start to see your mesmer developing.

My advice is: be prepared for it to be more difficult than thief. Mesmer is a very slow-starting profession. Once you hit Level 40 and can get Deceptive Evasion to up your clone generation rate, it can be slow going.

The races don’t matter as far as effectiveness, the races were built so that no race excels over any other for any profession.

You could have a look at the race elites and then decide which could be interesting for you.

I play a female human mesmer and most of the time I use balthazars hounds in pve, because for me it makes the most sense. ^^ (I do not really like the mesmer elites)

However, I decided for human not for the racial skill, but rather I wanted to recreate my ritu from gw and that was the closest thing I could manage to do. ^^

I also think a human female as mesmer looks pretty cool.

Waaaaa, mesmer elites are some of the best in the game o.O

Ok, some maybe the are really bad in pve.

If it helps my advice is to be ready to accept thieves pve faster than mesmers. To make things go by faster make a really cool character you will enjoy having 4 of on the screen. I made a char male because everyone thinks they look funny.
