I first started playing Mesmer in beta, and loved the idea of the class. I’ve recently returned from a long break, and trying to get back into sPvP on my Mesmer, but I’m really struggling with it.

My damage feels extremely subpar compared to other builds that I’ve been playing, mainly a power Necro. I’m consistently losing to other classes 1v1, though I beat most other Mesmer’s that I fight. So it leaves me wondering, am I just dropping the ball or am I missing something with the class?

I’m using this build for solo queue: Build

I start most fights off with GS 4 > GS 3 > GS 2 > f1 > GS 5 for interrupt and then switch weapons. If I’m spotted first, I’ll decoy so that I might start my combo.

I’ll use the mantra during fights as necessary to interrupt kitten, I blink when someone is within melee range unless I’m using S 2. I’m pulling with F 4. I just don’t know what I’m missing with the class, or more importantly if I’m just expecting a different experience than the class offers.

I’m using to winning nearly every 1v1 as a Power Necro, getting 3 and 4 kills in team fights with lich form, etc. Am I expecting something different than what the Mesmer offers?

My preference is an extremely strong 1v1 class, that can also contribute to team fights.

OP, Hard to say what you do wrong without seeing some gameplay or more detailed on how you loose. I mostly do WvW but I do some PvP and I dont feel weak really, I also use the meta shatter build. I ONLY play mesmer though so I got nothing to compare with :-/

Power necro in lich form is going to outdo anything for DPS if it’s not immediately shut down. Don’t expect any build to be comparable, but keep in mind that a decent team will focus you, strip your stability, and CC you hard.

If you are going for a hard spike with shatter mesmer, try to get an interrupt in before you actually land your F1 shatter. You will put 8 stacks of vulnerability on the enemy from a single daze and interrupt. GS2 is also great to land at close range, especially when traited, because it’ll give your enemy vulnerability and give you might.

When you use F1, you should make sure your clones are properly positioned so that your enemy can’t just kite them. Standard practice is to make a triangle of clones around the enemy.

Focus isn’t optimal for sPvP, if you want to run MH sword then try pistol or torch. Otherwise just run a staff on your swap with GS.

Thats because shatter mesmer loses most 1v1 against a same skilled enemy. However portal allows you to fight dirty at multiple places and succeed in 2v1.

For beeing a 1v1 kitten you should go for interrupts or conditions.

You know, I have more of a stuggle surviving on a warrior than I do a Mes. That’s because as a Mes main the playstyle is ingrained into me to avoid damage, where’as Warriors are designed to wade through and soak up so much damage. Thus things fall apart for me as a Warrior.

If you’re used to playing Necro and are trying to succeed at being a Mesmer, play style could be a huge factor.
