I am only asking mesmer class player only: I find that shatter is instant kill me in wvw. I experience shatter mesmer worse instant kill than thief because i was kill in less than 1-2 second. I know shatter is your strongest build but i did not know how very fast Instant Kill it is until today. I thought it was a thief but it was 1 mesmer only. I need suggestion and tip how to play against shatter mesmer? Thank You!

I am sorry to not give more information: i was play necromancer with 1747 toughness, Armor 2, 667, Vitality-968, health 18. 892 health with condition necromancer build

Seems unlikely to instant kill you with just mind wrack in that toughness, but he can seriously injure you if not careful. Look for a flying blade because that’s usually followed by shatter.

Yeah, but maybe if he stacked a few dazes on you, or perhaps interrupted your skills? That might’ve added damage to you, but it also definitely added vulnerability to you, setting up a Mesmer’s bigger bursts. Might be best to put your Death Shroud on the moment you notice the dazing, which will soften you up a lot, to take the brunt of the spike.

Others will likely have more in depth ideas on strategy, though.

Update: 3 of my wvw server commander said i was fighting with a very high experience mesmer player who use Double Shatter build.

Shatter is the main mode of a Mesmer imo. You should be aware that it’s difficult to land a full shatter, much less the kind of shatter chain that will result in a kill.

Basic defenses:

Dodge

kill the incoming clones.

Mesmer is already a very underdog class and that’s AFTER the recent buff. To be honest, I don’t give much credit to anyone kittening about mesmer. You really need to improve your general play skills.

Just pop spectral wall at your feet and keep the wall between you and it’s clones.
Just pop reaper mark on your feets.
Just enter in DS when you see him about to shatter.
Just use well of darkness.
Just use a well that does damage.
Just use spectral armor.
Just dodge.

If you do any one of this you will be able to avoid being wrecked in 1-2 second

Dodge the mirror blade. Dodge into the clones when they or the Mesmer run towards you.

I’ll just add that “instant kill” shatter is simply not possible because of how it works. The only thing that is remotely close to “instant kill” is either unloading a mirror images/mind wrack or mirror blade/mindwrack on enemies made of glass/paper, usually after stacking them up with vulnerability first – as people have said, look out for dazes and learn when to dodge.

Dodging at the right time can pretty much neuter any shatter mesmer – especially as their burst comes in cycles. Try not to be baited to dodge at the wrong time, which they will try to make you do to waste endurance before hitting you with the big damage.

Otherwise there will always be a set up. If the setup has been in stealth, then it is no different to predicting a thief’s burst and dodging/putting up appropriate defensive skills at the right time. Add to this that at the most they will only have up to a maximum of 4 stealth skills (4 only if veil and torch, 2 if only decoy/MI), all on medium/long cooldowns, it emphasises the fact that they are in serious trouble if they miss their burst too often – often blowing key defensive cooldowns in order to attack.

Also, if you’re a necro they should pretty much never be able to 100-0 you. It should take 2 or more heavy bursts – so you have the luxury of being able to soak up some damage, and put out the conditions/power damage that will melt any shatter player. Necro is the only class I have never played, but from experience of fighting against I know that your redundant health pool and defensive skills can soak up significant amounts of damage – certainly more than a shatter mesmer should be able to destroy without a full setup with max vulnerability. If they can, then you might want to look over your build.

Really really looking for mirror blade. Mirror blade in close range dishes out insane damge. That’s the only way you can get burst down that fast.

I believe that is what happened: when i saw the mesmer; i panic because i did not expect that to happen at all. Before when i encounter mesmer, they would run from me but this mesmer run straight for me very fast, that is how i panic.

I will take advice and learn.
