Let’s be clear, combo fields are not balanced. While in organized groups, you often see fire field or water field blasting, ethereal fields are pretty much only used by the mesmer who cast it to proc chaos armor, especially with chaotic dampening.

So here is a suggestion: what about blasting ethereal field give AOE quickness for a short duration (2s sound reasonable). It may sound strong at first, but if we compare to fire fields, quickness is stronger than might, however, 3 stacks for 20s for 1 blast is approximately a 4% damage increase (assuming 2200 power base) during the 20s, while quickness is at best a 50% damage increase during 2s only, so about 5% in the 20s. Remove to that the time lost in the blasting, and it is definitely not OP, but still useful.

Thoughts?

How would your suggestion work with Runes of Chronomancer which give 2s quickness for casting Wells? I suppose we are talking about Wells ethereal fields, aren’t we?

I would rather see some more possibilities to apply slow on target(s) as we only have a few skills (outside of Wells of Action) to apply on demand slow. Shield’s slow is depending on that we actually manage to summon iAvanger and only for a short range. In Chronomancer there are two other sources, but then you have to give up superspeed for illusions or alacrity for AoE sharing and in GM Chronophantasm or quickness on shatter.

Maybe a combination where you apply slow and confusion, if you use wirl finisher from GS or a leap finisher from Sword? Slow for power build and confusion for condition build.

*More slow is also useful for taking down break bars. From wiki its damage is 50 s per second Defiance bar Damage which is the third highest number from that list and same as immobile. Fear and taunt is the first and second on that list.

I wouldn’t say that blasting ethereal fields is the problem, nor the buff they grant. It’s the chaos armor itself wich is garbage. It would be nice to have a trait that changes all your ethereal fields to “some fancy chrono based new name” fields wich apply 2s quickness or 1s slow with projectile / leap finishers.

This is very cute, but doesn’t solve the issue at hand. That being said, I’d definitely prefer this trait over some of the Chrono slow traits as long as the combos work for allies as well as the Mesmer in terms of blasting, leaping and projectiles…
