I know that the game has been out for a while and most Mesmers are used to the way things are. That being said can we get the pistol skills swapped so that they line up with the rest of the off hand skills.

In every other off hand, Torch, Sword, and Focus slot 5 is the Phantasm. Pistol is the exception to this and the Phantasm is in slot 4. This would make things more streamlined, in that when I am dual wielding I know that slot 5 will always be my Phantasm. Instead of occasionally making that mistake with the pistol.

Is this an oversight, or is there a reason / rational for the pistol Phantasm to be in slot 4?

Thanks

It really isn’t a great problem, but shouldn’t be too much work to just swap the two skills =)

while there at it they might as well change the staffs 2/3/4 to match with the greatswords so when i have no idea what weapon i have out i can just spam 2 and 4 with my eyes closed, the way the games meant to be played!

Interesting. I was jut thinking about that.

Staff, Greatsword, Trident, and Spear – all have their clones / phantasm is different slots. Would be great to get them all in the same spot.

This thread is… horrible… Having to think is stupid? Then play a warrior.

Mesmer is a complex class, comparatively. We have a lot going on. I’m not saying we’re superior, but we are more confusing (to ourselves and enemies). Having the phantasms in different slots is the last thing we should be mentioning, when there are other legitimate balance and bug related issues still in game.

I happen to think that all the weapons are perfectly fine exactly how they are, and if the simple task of knowing which weapon you’re using is too difficult for you, don’t swap weapons.

Don’t expect Anet to dumb down a complex class so you can play it dumbly, please. Most of us chose Mesmer because we enjoy the playstyle and appreciate the complexity.

It does make sense to organize the skill bars in a uniform fashion since we can’t do it ourselves.

Temariah, I agree that this is hardly a pressing issue but your response is pretty silly. If you have to think before pressing a button to control your character you’re doing it wrong, it should be a matter of muscle memory. It’s not dumbing down the game in the slightest, it’s streamlining the control scheme.

Consistency in where skills are placed across weapons is hardly ‘dumbing down the class’. The complexity of knowing when to summon phantasms at the right time is the challenge, not trying to remember ‘oh, this time is it on key X’.

This is also a relatively simple fix, though it would probably frustrate a lot of folks that have already adapted to the quirks.

Wow….

You completely miss my point. I love the class, and I am not asking things to be “dumb down” I love the complexity of the class.

All I’m asking is that they stream line the skills a bit as far as the order. Skills in certain places don’t matter if you’re a button masher. Knowing when to use them is a different story.

Absolutely there are more important issues at hand, concerning Mesmer, but still, I have the right to offer a suggestion that is a quick fix. As it seems you would just want me to be quiet with my suggestion because there are “more important” issues.

Great job at fostering a good community.

If the complication in playing a class comes from changing key binds you’re doing it wrong as a game designer. If, as a player, you want confusing key binds because it makes you feel more 1337, you’re doing it wrong, too.

Consistent UI/UX and consistent mechanics aren’t “dumbing down” the game. They’re improving on it and allow for more intelligent game play.

couldn’t agree more. I would even change all the keybinds but it’s probably too late.

  1. should be auto attack
  2. should be special attack
  3. should be clone
  4. should be control/defense
  5. should be phantasm

Well, in GW2 you have to learn your weapon skills one-by-one. This means the developers didn’t allocate the skills by their type, but by the order of learning. This sure is pointless once you reach lvl6 (?) but that’s most likely the reason.

Instead of swapping those keys on certain weapons, I’d prefer to rearrange the weaponary skills myself (once all are unlocked). I even see barely a reason to set auto-attack to an “easy-to-reach” key while you only have to press is once (and not even that) and set the first first skill you usually use to the “somewhat-reachable” key 5.

While I agree that having to really extend yourself mentally to figure out which buttons you need to press is not a good idea, and while I agree that the game should be muscle memory in order for us to have the quick responses we need to survive, I don’t think that the order of skills on weapons has reached a point where it’s really hard to recall which buttons do what.

Maybe this is because I’ve played games (yes WoW, also Tera and several others) where you have dozens of skills that you can and should use. Having 10, with one on a long CD (elite) and 3 that are mainly situational (utility) does not feel overwhelming at all. I’m not trying to imply that I’m somehow superior than others who do not have those experiences with button-intensive games, but I think that using 10 skills is not generally difficult.

Also, a very big part of gameplay is weapon swapping. It gives us an additional potential 50% more skills to toy with, and that can really be an advantage. I suggest that players who are having a very hard time remembering which weapon they have equipped take a step back and practice in less stressful environments where they can really get a feel for the different weapons. I’m not saying I’ve never made the mistake where I hit the right button with the wrong weapon, but I’m saying that those mistakes are my fault for being ignorant of a key aspect of gameplay (my weapon).
