Hi. I’ve had this game for about 4 months & I just started playing an Asura as a Mesmer.
I’ve looked up some videos on swords skills and I’ve got to be honest, I’m disappointed. WHAT is the point of having a sword IF YOU CAN’T MELEE with it?? Am I missing something? Does it have melee skills when used as the offhand weapon?

Someone PLEASE explain this to me (respectfully, of course), because right now I’m shaking my head as to the logic of this.

Second. See sword Oh as the shield you carry in your oh to have extra utility (phantasm come form oh weps or 2 hadn weps) and a block. Like a fenzer you block with your oh and attack with your mian hand. The block thu is a fantastic pool of dmg who few ppl dive in. It create a clone the core of our dmg and it deal some nasty extra dmg. The pahntasm is a single target high cortter. Bets of all, sword is the ONLY oh you can get 20% less cd in tier 1. Specc 10 points in dueling and get both your OH and MH 20% less cd.

I’m not really sure what you mean; are you talking about Sword in the Main hand (MH) or Sword in the Off-hand (OH)? Also what do you mean by not being able to Melee with it?

Both Sword Main Hand and Sword Off-hand are strong melee weapons.

Perhaps you are referring to the Two-Handed GREATsword? Indeed, that is a Ranged weapon when used on a Mesmer! Other classes use it as a melee weapons.

Also, if melee is your main desire, maybe Mesmer isn’t right for you. While it’s an amazing profession, its only melee weapon is the 1h sword. Other professions offer much more melee-oriented fighting. Mesmer is primarily a caster, so your melee is going to be very in-and-out, hit-n-retreat. Strong melee professions would be Warrior, Guardian, Ranger, Thief.

Do you mean GS?

MH sword only has auto attack and BF as melee.
iWave on GS, mirror blade and even mind stab almost feel like melee.

But mesmer’s not about extensive “in your face” melee like a warrior – dance around, leap in for a quick melee and leap out again.

OH sword has a block too.

I feel like youre confusing the greatsword and sword.
Greatsword is a ranged weapon, main hand sword is melee.
The off hand sword has a high damage ranged block and single target single attack high hitting phantasm.

I messed up, everyone. Allissah is right. I was confusing Greatsword with Sword. A regular sword DOES have some melee skills. I just got a little worked up when I saw the greatsword skills to the point I forgot what I had just watched previously in the video. I’m sorry, everyone, BUT…I still appreciate your input as it is all useful information. Therefore I will not delete this post.
