So I watched some of the matches today. I was paying attention to Helseth in particular running GS sw/torch shatter mes. He did some amazing portal plays (the field medic ports for downed eles to res off point were great), and some solid point assaults etc. Other than that his Shatter mes was a joke. Thief was the least of his worries, he got downed by everything. If he wasnt dropping a portal, he was running back from spawn.

He could have taken portal in a tanky build, not gone down at all, and been more effective for the overall performance. It was just sad to watch. Anyone else watch any of the matches?

shatter mes in pvp are just joking around
their dmg is huge but in group play hardly noticed and can be fast pressured
also the thieves if they dont pay attention
i watch almost every match and all i see that mesmer and thieves are just there to steal points but hardly to engage in any fight
if they see 1v1 they will back off as they know they will just loose time and points to their team so they look for the 4v3 do their burst and look for point steal.
so regarding dps its very low . regarding tactics can be great.
many time i jock around with stealth and steal far point for my team or just uncontested it.

I was watching supcutie and Dankening in action just now. It indeed looks like the margin for error is small and one mistake can snowball his team to a big disadvantage.

shatter build is a team build he is never meant to 1 v 1 anything. But he turns the fight for his team because of the huge dps spike. Shatter is so glass there is no margin for error that is why I always posted that classic shatter is not the way to go if you are not crazy crazy good.

Mesmer can carry a team, very, very hard and do insane stuff (take a look at Mishas bursts and rotations in the monthly GO4)
In my opinion there are two reasons why Helseth played like he did.
First thing is he was playing sword/torch.
He should of REALLY went staff considering there was a lot of AOE going on. He couldn’t really afford to go melee.

Second thing is that their communication was sloppy from what I could see.
They could of won the first best of 3 if they didn’t leave their close open as much, or at least tracked Frae and called out where he was.

Also, I think that you should add to that the fact that Quove, Zuik ect don’t have as much top tier PvP experience as Helseth, Sizer and the entire oRNG. They were picked up from a 1v1 server as far as I know so could also be rotations? I was brain afk while watching so didn’t pay attention to that a lot.

If your team is getting outplayed mesmer spends a lot of time in downed state. For example, yesterday I queued up with 4 friends to try a team comp out, first game together → 55HP full roster
we lost like 200-500 both games, 1 was maybe 150, irrelevant.
Basically I spent a lot of the game in downed state because I kept getting 2v1d while rotating to points but was it my fault? Not really.
That’s sort of the curse and the blessing of mesmer. If you die a lot, you can blame it on your team, but then again, it’s hard to figure out is it your fault or is it really your team.
I still think we did not bad considering it was our first game together.

Helseth was always a beast with staff. His movement/positioning/kiting with it was very good. I’m wondering if losing staff outweighs the benefit he gets from torch stealth.

Supcutie was also huge for the dankening, I’d give him MVP of the final match (not even including the team portal plays that he brings).
