Ok so as more ppl hit 80 and more people realize where all the hot spots are more and more AoE is dropped on them…

Now I may be doing it wrong. But all of our slow AoE’s never seem to be enough and always feel kittened when trying to tag.

I was running GS/Staff…

But staff isn’t doing anything, even if I get a bunch of conditions they will die before any real ticks occur as a condition build…

GS with a crit/crit dmg build is the best I’ve found, but mind stab is sooooo tiny, and phantasmal berserker will die as soon as the targeted mob gets smoked in the AoEs.

I moved over to sword so I can hit at least a few guys but my god is that inefficient at 130 range and less damage output than the other classes spamming 1 and f…

and the answer I always get at this point is “shatter”, but how am I supposed to shatter when I wait for the clones to come out? and even if I do get the clone out and successfully shatter them most of the time everything is dead…

Sometimes I do get lucky however, and my berserker runs through them all I get lots of loot but it’s not much to rely on.

The Question:
“I get mesmers arn’t going to semi afk spam 1/f but my god it’s like almost impossible to hit anything before it downs… How do more seasoned vets get around this?”

(And I don’t want to be told to lvl a guardian or warrior up to 80 just to get some friggen gold and karma!)

I do agree. Our primary source of AoE (or at least, what Anet intends to be our primary source of AoE), Mind Wrack, is simply not possible to use when mobs die in the middle of conjuring Clones. Similar problem with AoE Phantasms.

In general I avoid events that involve masses of trash mobs, they’re not worth a Mesmer’s time usually.

I am also concerned about this. currently lvl 61 hoping for good advice before i hit 80. I can always roll my eng if it’s hard tho so at least I have options.

Errr, Illusory Persona Shatters. No illusion, no problem.

Mind Stab, iBerserker, knockback, Shatter Shatter huehue.

Illusionary Persona is nice, except it requires you to be right in the middle of the mobs and of course a 30 point investment in Illusion.

Mind Stab is tiny. Phantasms can fail to appear if the target you’re conjuring on dies during the cast, which happens in these events. Illusionary Wave doesn’t do enough damage to tag targets.

I’ve been doing that… but things tend to die by the end of the mind stab… opening with iZerker seems to work more effectively I find.

And I did try the iPersona trait when I first hit 80 but really… the one shatter on yourself amidst the mobs but it’s not enough to tag (at least not in cursed shore, works better in some other areas though I admit.)

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m iWaving mobs away from the AoE just so I can tag it and droping portals where everyone spams F to move them away to give me a chance but I’m pretty sure that’s starting to walk the line of griefing… But Frankly the others don’t give me much choice!

They let me succeed, but it seems like you’ll have to find something else that works for you.

Maybe Anet can implement an “iSucceed” button for you?

I already have things that work for me (I too use Illusionary Persona in PvE), the point is Mesmers should not need to go to such lengths just to secure a participation in this kind of DEs. All other professions have easy-to-use AoEs right out of the oven.

Don’t forget that Cry of Frustration has a direct damage component as well. I usually toss iBerserker, then blink to a random place and hit Wrack, then a Cry, while spamming GS1 at random targets in between since it has no projectile. Mind Stab is kind of my last resort for a random pack in another corner.

The biggest issue I find is the mobs actually drawing on my screen.

That aside: while other classes get more AOE faceroll (and actually not by that much tbh), the Mesmer is basically overpowered at everything in the game except for tagging mobs in a DE.

So it’s basically a non-issue for me.

Dodge Clone, Dodge Clone, Decoy, Shatter F1. (Skip any Clone, to even none depending on how hard the AoEs are coming in)

Either Mirror Images, Staff Phase Retreat
Or Sword Leap, Staff Phase Retreat, Dodge Clone
Then Shatter F2. (Again, skip clones depending on how fast enemies go down)

Chaos Storm.

Prestige (Admittedly the hardest one to land, needing to know the spawn times) or I.Warden in the mess.

Repeat!

I.Warden is nice, in that it spawns at range. He’ll tag a few creatures before he gets killed. As long as he gets up, he’ll keep swinging around even after his target dies for the length of his skill or until something smacks him hard.

That said, I know I am jealous of the Guardian and its Wave of Wrath on the Staff.

I would say 6x Superior Runes of the Centaur helps but … that affects all my allies around me too, so they get to targets faster as well >.>; T.Curtain though does help, as it doesn’t tag ALL allies around me.

I don’t think anyone here is arguing how kitten mes are, though do you have a more efficient gold/karma farm than events in your opinion?

I don’t pug exp mode dungeons without people I know, are SM runs when my buddies are offline, potentially better than events every 15 min?

This is assuming mobs don’t die after the first doge while standing in the big AoE put at the spawn (sorry for double post)

I’m still talking about farming during hours when people actually play… you know other than doing events all day on my days off and no one is around.

This is definitely an issue for Mesmers. My friend plays a Guardian and regularly pulls in three or four times as much loot as I do from DE’s just from spamming his greatsword attacks.

I’m leveling up a different class for DE farming. Over time, it’ll probably end up being more efficient to do that than to constantly fight twice as hard as other classes for a fraction of the reward.

I don’t really spend too much time farming gold/karma tbh. If I’m not farming something specific, then I’m in WvW pew pew pew.

If you’re farming that hardcore for gold, farm other players through the trading company rather than mobs, IMO.

I’ve been farming for stuff to break down for mats and sell mats but maybe it’s redundant?

Yes, depending on the story mode.

I wouldn’t recommend AC, for example.
