They are both so unimaginative and boring.
The visual effect sucks.
We have a block on 3 of our weapon skills and its almost redundant at this point.

I would like to see if off the main hand personally as base mesmer only has 2 mainhand weapons and the block on it is just so boring and redundant with the sheild.
but i would settle for the sword because if I was a mesmer I think i would be able to think of more creative things to do with my sword than block.

Ideas.
Main Hand Scepter:
Skill 2
2a.Vortex: Open up vortex that pulls in all projectiles and causes damage in the ground targeted area
2b. Vortex explosion: Explode vortex knocking down enemies in the area.

Off Hand Sword Skill.
Skill 4
Empathy: Throw and illusionary sword at 2 targets each time these foes damage you they also damage themselves. base damage on hit. (Similar to the ranger elite.)

I think this really sets up the mesmer for future elite specs better than the current skills do. You can add another main hand block on a future elite spec if people really miss it.

They are a bit unimaginative, but they’re also pretty useful. Considering how imaginative the rest of the mesmer/chrono class is compared to other classes, I think they can get a pass on this. =P

The problem I have with the main hand scepter is its the only other option for main hand besides the sword and its visually uninteresting and skillfully unimaginative. if we had a third base off hand this would not be a problem but since we only have 2 it doesn’t really set up up well for future specs.

I guess the best option would be just add another weapon.

Hmmm – I’ve been playing with scepter more or less continuously for about 3 years.

I admit that the auto-attack is not that skillful per se, but even it has some decisions like whether you want another attack to fire now to get a clone or if you want to move on to another skill.

The block is very cool. At times, it can lead to tricky decisions about when and how to do it. Depending on your build, there is not only the defensive value of avoiding damage but also potentially a very big offensive payoff. And yet, it has counterplay both in avoiding attacking while the block is up and evading if you do hit the block. And, as the one using the block, you have to choose whether you’re better off ending it early and getting the blind or holding it to the final fraction of a second.

Because #3 skill pierces, you can get a lot more out of it if you’re paying attention to target selection and positioning. It has a painful windup, but there’s a grandmaster trait that makes it much more responsive if the weapon is important to your gameplay. And the power damage scaling makes it appealing as a hybrid weapon if you’re trying to do that.

I don’t have a problem with the blocks themselves. They’re useful. And I certainly don’t agree that they’re redundant with Shield, considering the fact that Shield is an elite spec weapon, and while right now pretty much everyone is taking Chronomancer, in the future when more elite specs pop up that may not always be the case, so not everyone would have access to shield in order to have a block.

I would definitely get behind some visual buffs to the skills to make them more interesting looking, though. Mainly the counterattacks. They’re both rather bland, boring, and silly “raise weapon into the air and some invisible thing hits the opponent out of nowhere” type counters, which aren’t visually striking at all, much less for a Mesmer.

Perhaps something like…

Sword #4 – Creates glowing crossed swords which slash the opponent on activation of the counterattack

Scepter #2 – Creates a laughing, menacing face behind opponents on activation of the counterattack (think a face similar to the masks Mesmer’s get on character creation).

sword offhand should be more of offensive or even offensive utility. sword main offer enough defense- root and blurr. Maybe sword 4 should be a blink similar to axe 4 of Rev

Sword 4 just needs a buff to be reliable. Should interrupt on trigger since it’s not very useful against multi hit attacks even more so when it has such a large delay between the block and the hit.

I don’t dislike the idea on scepter 2 but I don’t use it enough to be able to judge.

I don’t like things about a game that i enjoy so i put out that information in hope that the devs pay attention..
In fact so many people complained about the scepter that it is even said that the scepter will get a rework in some of its functionality..
