Talk: Signet of Midnight.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Why midnight when you can use Signet of STUNYOUINTHEFACE for a 3 second stun with ridiculous range? More with sigil of para.
More condi damage too
If you have to use a signet that’s the one
Too many good utilities to use signet of midnight… imho..
It was very usable, before Blinding Befuddlement took a nosedive. Now, I’d have to say it’s simply “OK”
Other 80s: Any but Warrior

Thanks for stating the obvious I guess? xD
seriously though I think they should just kill the boon duration and give us a speed boost >> Then maybe I’ll consider it outside of playing in PvE open world lol

I usually only use it in FoTM at Maw :/ (in order to melee the tentacles)
I think it could be pretty nice as a third (instant) invulnerability (Distortion), using the Blurred Inscriptions (Dueling; VIII) trait.
Everyone knows that our passive signet effects are bad anyways
Should have a much lower cooldown, and the passive bonus doesn’t make sense at all.
I also hate how the distortion signet trait is basically redundant somewhat.
What would be cool is if they gave it some Mesmer flair like making it a debuff that’s attatched to the targets affected.
Signet of Midnight : Places a 2 second debuff on the target that causes the target to become blind every second, attacking refreshes the debuff. Debuff lasts a maximum of 8 seconds.
This would basically make it so the 2 second debuff is constantly refreshed if the person keeps spamming attacks which then basically perma blinds them as long as it’s on. So they would need to stop attacking and wait for the debuff to fall off. Will either be a 2 second up to an 8 second chain blind.
Conversely it could work the other way away so that is has synergy with Confusion :
Signet of Midnight : Places an 8 second debuff on the target that has 3 charges; applies blind every 1 second while the debuff is active. Attacks remove 1 charge/stack and every 3 seconds the charges are refreshed. Removing all 3 charges removes the debuff
This would basically mean that the target is perma blinded until they attack 3 times within 3 seconds which will completely remove the debuff and only have blinded them for 3 attacks. If they stall too long then the stacks will get refreshed so it punishes them for attacking too slowly, but the debuff only lasts a maximum of 8 seconds.
It wouldn’t be too difficult to remove if you just spam, but it also works very well with Confusion which punishes spam.
Here my third idea, which is inspired by the GW1 version :
Signet of Midnight : Places a debuff on both the target and the Mesmer for 4-5 seconds, while the debuff is active blind is applied every 1 second.
This wouldn’t be optimal to use ALL the time, but becomes a mainly defensive ability and you can lock yourself out in order to temporarily shut someone else’s offensive capabilities. ALSO, this would work very well if the Mesmer has phantasms/clones out BEFORE using it so they are less penalized by it, would work very well. I’d probably suggest this change the most.
Oh yeah, and the passive bonus should just be 25% movement speed TBH, move the 10% boon duration and put it on Signet of Inspiration (that thing is so situational anyway), and remove the sprint proc from Signet of Inspiration.

Its very bad for pvp at least. 25 secs is too long. The boon duration is not enough and if it was no one would take it for its active effect.
It is intended to be defensive but it just does not pull it off. The only way to fix it is to maie it pulse an aoe blind for (x) seconds. This way it works in pvp as a (oh bleep!) Button and in pve the attacks generally come so slowly. ( i believe) that the reapplications add little additional benefit.

For tentacle melee, just go sword/sword. The sweeping attack you use blurred frenzy or the block, and the other attack you can simply side-step it. If you circle strafe around the tentacle, it won’t hit you with the non-sweeping attack.
As far as signet of midnight, it’s pretty much useless. I wouldn’t use it in any serious build.
Signet of midnight is a low cooldown stunbreaker, but its hard to justify over decoy, blink or mirror images. I think they should make some of the signet traits easier to get or better. Blurred Inscriptions or Cleansing Inscriptions both could be pretty cool with Signet of Midnight since its the only instant signet. They could increase the distortion to 2 seconds or make it so 2 conditions are removed and these traits would be worth taking. Also it would help a lot if the cast times of the other signets were reduced or removed. I don’t see why Signet of Inspiration needs a cast time, for example. It is far weaker than a number of other instant boon giving utilities used by other classes (i.e. shouts).

Signet of Midnight also lacks identity. I wonder what the “old” version was, because +10% boon duration has nothing to do with Midnight. :P
Signet of Midnight
Attacks made against darker the area around you, continuously increasing the chance that attacks will miss you. Effect fades if not attacked.
On use: Immediately turn an area around a friendly target completely dark, making it very difficult to hit friendly targets inside. Lasts 10 seconds or until 5 attacks missed in the area.
Passive: -5% chance to be hit for every time hit, lasting 5 seconds or until refreshed. Drops to 0 stacks if it reaches 10 stacks.
Graphically, the area around you should lose brightness and saturation, being a black/white shadow shape when the active is used.
My take
Passive: +20% movement speed at night
The active is fine, but to make it more worthwhile, adding blast finisher (and some aesthetic effect for the aoe blind) would be nice.
The +10% boon duration can go to Signet of Inspiration as it would be more befitting.
Signet of Inspiration passive effect: grants random boon every 10s + 10% boon duration bonus

Oh, that’d be even more interesting, something with a day/night cycle.

Signet of midnight was amazing… something that bugs me. why does a blind causing confusion bring about an ICD. But an interrupt doesn’t? This is kind of annyoing.
Honestly I could see it being useful if it made a 360 radius smoke field like thieves black powder number 5 on pistol off hand. That would be sick! Blind with another chance at stealth
