Temporal Curtain + ileap combo...no way.
The combo light + leap only affects who does the combo, it doesn’t have aoe benefits. So you will only get retaliation when you do the combo on the light field.
The problem with clones when they walk through the field might be a bug, or just a complicate mechanic.
I’ve done this combo hundreds of times when I fight bosses and it works perfectly. The key is to do both leaps when you are on the field.

the clone has to leap across the field, not walk.
the leap only happens on even terrain, and only on the initial cast.
Stand on the Curtain. Leap + Swap on it and you will always get both (unless you are +600 range or blinded/blocked)

Ok,
I have done more testing this morning following your advices. I thought that the clone had to leap through the curtain but as you said, you have to be exactly on the curtain for both, leap and swap, to work. Ok, I buy it xD, it adds more difficulty in pvp as you need to place the curtain on top of yourself or move wherever you have placed it before casting leap, but with some practice I will get used to it. Thanks!
It isn’t really worth it in PvP to begin with since ArenaNet saw fit to kitten retaliation…
Note that the retaliation field exists for the duration of the curtain even if you use the curtain to pull people around.
haven’t really tried extensively in pvp, but I can imagine some usefulness in group battles and on a tanky/phantasm build. If you have phantasmal defender out with maxed hp, you get double retaliation when you are hit. If you have signet of inspiration, you give retaliation to your teammates. If the whole group gets hit by aoe, that’s a huge hit to the caster. Either way, it does make a difference over time. Probably not worth counting on as your only source of damage, but in a build designed to exploit this combo, you will also have high power, and you will be using blade-frenzy, and probably iwarden…it all adds up
I believe this is the basis for the immortal mesmer build: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-The-Immortal-Mesmer-Build/first
