Yeah just read that Blackgate has killed Teq.

I used the spec i still was using from my laat dungeon, which is the Chaos Maestro boon support one.
Since its not a tagfest and have to autoatrack stuff and stuff, I simply kept 4 people supplied with:
- perma regen
- perma vigor
- perma 3 might and 50% 12 might
- 33% protection
- 33% fury
- 3k aoe heals every 3 seconds.
- etc
Sadly, theres no point in giving vigor when they cant locate and properly press rheir dodge key >_<
:D(Slight Mesmer support propaganda intended)
Anyway, I like only getting rewards at the end, it doesnt make me feel left out for not going after “dem phat lewtz”.

Good idea, Alissah – I may have to break out my “Healer” suit. That darn Tequatl … grumblegrumblegrumble …

Mantras are actually quite useful it seems during this fight. MoR and traited MoRec cleanses the almost constant poison and you can use your heal while being Cc’d. Not to mention Concentration almost completely stops those wave shenanigans.
30/30/0/10/0 Even with a trait setup like this I still don’t feel glassy at all and can pewpew all day with greatsword. I just wish the October balance was sooner!
My recommendation is to just go full phantasm and stack 3 wardens on the head. They will protect each other and never die up there. That way, you just have to worry about dealing damage.
I was fighting Teq in overflow (get’n destroyed) during that BG takedown. Some of my guildies were in there for it though. The main force used our WvW BG TS, but I’m not sure who was commanding.
The damage is pretty extreme so taking Restorative Mantras, perhaps along with Null Field would definetly be useful. I would not trait for full support though since everyone needs to be doing damage as well. Teq targets people with large “wells”, so taking phantasms that move away from you (warden, swordsman, zerker) are probably best. He also sends out a cool looking tidal wave which I think stability helps with.

Stability/Invuln/Evade all work on the wave attack. I was thinking 10/30/0/30/0, S/P, S/F might work out. Run RM, keep MoP/MoR ready to go. Plop an kitten ton of heals out that way, especially in the Healsuit.

Fixed that for you, I think.
Hmm, Maybe ill try going 10/10/25/25/0 in my berserker/knight/cavalier mix + boon support runes… Get 3 wardens out and go back to doing other stuff ^__^.
I guess ill lose out on some regen and most aoe vigor… But vigor does nothing, seeing the average player doesnt bother dodging water/poison >__<
I didnt know you could put wardens in the air O.o.

Hrmm, thanks for the heads up and advice folks. =) Been in on a few fights, but I haven’t seen a win yet. Was looking for what best I could do to help my fellows out. Still, it’s really cool that my guild was able to participate in the first kill though. Just wish I’d been there for it. XD

Don’t swordsmen work?

My guess is Pyro votes Wardens since they’ll appear at Teq’s head, and be immune to his attack-spam.
I concur. The reflection is the key element to the Warden phantasms, and the Swordsmen do not have that. I’m going to see how they do in my next fight. It seems like a reasonable strategy.
Also was thinking of Feedback, Null Field, and Improved Condition Damage. Think I might re-specialize for increased duration and reduced timer on Glamour as well.
I briefly considered Illusion of Life, since it’s an AoE to get people up in the mass down that occurs, but since there is a slim likelihood that the temporarily raised people would be able to to get back up permanently by killing something it seems like a poor choice indeed. Pity.

Illusion of Life is so rarely used, I’d doubt a lot of folk would know what to do while it’s up. Not to mention, it looks like Teq’s pet Risen got a buff as well. I wonder how a set of Zerkers’d do. They also spawn on a Dragon Champ’s head.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
@colesy: swordsmen spawn at you, so they can’t get to the head. Wardens and zerkers spawn on target, and so they will be summoned floating in midair at his head.
Zerkers will be killed by the tequatl fingers tossing poison. Wardens will protect each other from that.
Edit: Also use Pvt gear.
Would carrion be a viable alternative at all? Toughness sucks pretty hard in PvE, so while you wouldn’t have power as your main stat, having power, cond damage and vit gives you three relevant stats on objects versus PVT’s … 2.5 relevant stats. Then again I have zero experience with applying conditions with my mesmer beyond bleeds from sharper images and vuln on sword and I know bosses hit the cap pretty quickly, so…

You got it right in your last sentence. The main method of bleed application for mesmers is sharper images. Tequatl is a gadget. You can’t crit on gadgets. No crits = no need for precision + no need for crit chance + no ability to apply bleeds + no need or condition damage.
On top of that, bosses do get ….everything capped pretty much instantly, so conditions are mostly useless. Power is the only relevant attack stat against gadgets.

Wow…that was an eye opener…talk about narrow play-style when dealing with bosses then. Thanks…didn’t know that. >_>

Well, there goes the Healsuit/Mantra bit. Apothecary/Shaman won’t mean jack for that scrap. May as well pull out the Fightsuit (Soldier/Knight)

We took out Tequila yesterday and I just had to go with mantra healing to survive (in pretty much full soldiers). Even with that amount of healing it was pretty kitten hard to stay up and I went down a couple of times (but granted, I didnt exactly try to dodge stuff as we where a 50+ man clusterkitten at his foot). Ether didnt cut it at all.
Following pyro’s advice I’ve had some sweet success with a 20/0/0/25/25 setup. Take all the relevant traits that boost your phantasms and weapon cool downs. Perhaps take Signet of Illusions as well. Get close enough to spawn Wardens on his head and throw feedbacks over there too. Although sword is riskier the invulnerability cannot be overstated enough, it’s also great for fingers too. Good luck out there fellow Mesmers!

If you want to do zerker you can defend turrets. There you fight some mobs, including some very scaled up vets and champs. You can crit those, though conditions will probably still be of limited use.
