The Look of a Mesmer
Go look up GW1 Mesmer armor: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mesmer_armor some frills going on, but still quite “normal” looking. I prefer GW1 armor in many cases to 2 though.
I hated the GW1 mesmer armor. Prevented me from ever using mesmer as a main class.. not that it was incredibly appealing anyways.
If a mesmer wears a normal piece of armor, does it get ‘mesmerized’ and suddenly have a “frilly” (I’ll just use “frilly” to encompass all the oddities of this style) appearance?
This really makes me want to re-roll as a female. At least it fits a female character.
and this is why I always make female characters.. They always look better or cuter than males..

Nope. Mesmer light armour looks same as anyone else’s light armour, not sure where the OP is getting the idea mesmer armour is any more frilly or ridiculous than any other light armour class.

It may have just been armor received from a story quest, just jumped to the conclusion that it was all eventually going to be like that.
If anything clothing doesn’t fit the theme well enough for my taste. Starter mask also seem to have a bugged display, changing the texture of the characters face underneath to black. I’d be happy if I could find something like the cultural tier 2 female human armor. Just sans and goofy hat and the half dress.
Light armor will be tailored for mesmers, necros, and elementalists. Look around the net for some images of those classes. You can get any armor those guys wear in addition to the dungeon and race armors. I play a mesmer, but prefer the early armor and necro armor, so I tend to build my appearance around those peices. Some (usually the early armor) I need to transmute, but I can usually find some current necro armor I like to complete my look.

The elegant look of the Mesmer is what attracted me to it so much in Guild Wars 1 and why I still love them in 2. Of course, since all casters use the same armors I tend to try and find the most elegant armors to use on my Mesmer. Currently I’m working towards leveling my tailoring just so I can create masquerade armor for my Mesmer since it fits the “feel” of the class so well. Also…purple butterflies/lasers/domes etc. ftw!
“So I’ve never cared much more for the ‘elegant’ part of the mesmer. I don’t care really for the lore or whatever behind it. I like a mage”
Mesmer is all about elegance and style. I don’t even consider mesmer a “mage” profession.
Since you played GW1, and are using male light-armored class, you should have access to Heritage armor. It is absolutely amazing. I don’t like any of GW2 armor better than Heritage one for male light-armor class. If you don’t like Heritage armor either, I can only say you have no taste in fashion and style and so shouldn’t even play a mesmer. Masks are bad though, that’s true – I simply don’t display them and problem solved.
