The Prestige (Torch 4 skill)
No clue, but it’s the same way with the Thief’s Blinding Powder skill. Instant blind and stealth, but it cancels stomps.
Hexual – Female Mesmer
Sazed – Male Mesmer
Built-in cancel command so you don’t break stealth instantly? Does it interrupt Scepter #3 channel or the like too?
I believe entering stealth auto-cancels any and all actions you’re currently taking. A measure to prevent you from auto-attacking and instantly revealing yourself or something.

It doesn’t, but most skills that provide stealth do have that effect. The notable exception to this is the thief trait ‘last refuge’, and it’s a fantastic example of why stealth skills all interrupt actions.
Use it right before you stomp like we all do.
Elementalist Mesmer Ranger

Firstly, instant cast skills can be used while performing other action. The Prestige is not an instant cast skill but It has no cast time. Some example for instant cast skills would be: the shatter skills, blink, phase retreat, and chaos armor. We do use The Prestige for stomping but mainly because of the stealth and not due to the blind.
The reason why elementalists’ lightning flash works is because it is an instant cast skill. This means you can time your lightning flash to blind your opponent’s skill 2 in downstate, so it does not interrupt your stomp.
However, The Prestige is not an instant cast skill. Assuming you get revealed as soon as you used The Prestige, and your stomp animation is already begun. For stupid opponents, they may just use their skill 2 so that skill will miss. If you are against opponents who have finished primary school(or just with common sense), they will first get rid of the blind just by pressing 1. After that, they can use their skill 2 which will interrupt your stomp.
Maybe try not to compare mesmer’s skills to other professions since it only makes you salty.

The blind popping when you exit stealth is pretty perfect. It tends to soak the last-chance Hammer Toss, Grappling Line, Thunderclap, or Fear.

Except that it blinds when you enter stealth, not when you exit it…
Ack, that’s right. I keep forgetting because it lasts for, like, 5-7s (depending on your build).
The prestige is nice to avoid being seen with invisabilty and the blind when you enter stealth. however it won’t stop that guardian push back with 2. better off using distortion againist that with 3 pink orbs or any downed player if possable. The prestige is a good second option or also decoy so the down player hits the wrong mesmer which isn’t you.
Also if you prestige behind the downed player he/she won’t see you until it’s too late when he’s attacking someone else.
(It’s a nice scare when they didn’t see a Cat Mage from behind ready to spike em in mid air.)

Actually, Blinding Powder was recently buffed to not interrupt casts anymore, and can now be used for safe stomping. I wouldn’t mind to see The Prestige buffed in that way, but I thing safe stomping is actually one of the few things the mesmer does well.
How is this a thread
