I thought they increased its Burning damage/duration, but no. They increased its weak direct damage so it’s slightly less weak. What was the point of that?

Burning is a CD, its damage/duration are tied to your CD damage/duration.

I know that, hence why I said damage/duration though the patch says damage only.

Regardless, it is a pointless change and seems to be aimed at… nothing whatsoever. I really scratch my head at how Anet does balance. (+30s CD to Portal fixes it? lolwut)

It’s aimed at people who love torches. I, for one, loved the concept behind torches for Mesmers, and this buff makes it viable on the same level as pistol and focus for me.
I hit 1k when emerging from TP to nearby players in WvW running a Condition Bunker build, not to mention the lovely burn.
And the iMage now applies 3 stacks of confusion on a 6 second cooldown, meaning I can keep my enemy confused half the fight without having to use Confusing Images or shatter my clones.

Torch is now properly viable as a weapon choice.

Portal, on the other hand, needed a nerf. They couldn’t nerf the distance so they nerfed the cooldown. Now this essentially wastes a space on your Utility bar for 90 seconds which should turn people who use it to annoy others away from the spell.
We may see the CD reduced in the future, maybe with Portal having a cast time where the Mesmer has to stand still to cast both sides of the portal.

For now, be glad we’ve been fixed and stop crying over a single nerf to the Mesemer class.

Nah, we aren’t fixed yet.

Our Illusions still have too much HP, they need to be fixed to just 1 HP.
Confusion deals too much damage, it needs to be fixed to just 8 + 1% ConDmg at 80.
Phantasms are too powerful, they need to be fixed for lower damage and only 1 attack before dispersing.
Mesmers have too much HP, they need to have a base of 2150 at 80 to be fixed.
Clones are too confusing for PvP. They should be painted bright Yellow and Orange, and Mesmers can’t be allowed to use those colors for them to be fixed.
Mesmer’s have too much Stealth, so a fix of removing it all should be implemented.
Mesmer’s Portal is too powerful still, a fix of making the max distance to just 10 units away is needed for a fix.
Mesmer’s generate illusions too fast, a fix of an Internal Cooldown on Illusion skill needs to be implemented so that an Illusion can’t spawn within 30 seconds of each other. Just have the Illusion skill fail on full CD if they use it when the Internal CD on Illusions is up.
Mesmer traits are too powerful and need to be fixed! Just simply disable them all for now, we’ll “Polish” them up later.

Don’t you know? The above is apparently ANet’s Vision for the Mesmer, and the class is slowly being fixed to match it. Patch by patch, it will get there.

Oh come on, you HAVE to know the next patch is going to Nerf something else of the Mesmer. Pistol, Focus, and 1H-Sword are up next for weapon nerfs, along with increased CDs on Shatters! Maybe they’ll even throw in a time-limit on Illusions too! Not to mention going back to the older Winds of Chaos, as the new one hits targets too easily!

(Yes, I’ve given up hope on seeing the mythical “Polish” for Mesmers mentioned in the BWEs. Kitten those ANet Devs and their Mesmer hating ways.)

I love the Torch too, for PvP. But buffing The Prestige’s direct damage doesn’t make much sense when the Torch is very much a condition damage weapon… for me it now does an extra 150 damage, wow. And the iMage change would be a buff if Illusion conditions can be affected by +condition duration, like Master of Misdirection; but as it doesn’t it really isn’t much better than the previous version apart from being more difficult to cleanse.

I agree Portal needed a nerf, my incredulity was in how Anet decided to nerf it. Increasing its CD does absolutely nothing to address its issues, you can be sure people will still use it in WvW to abuse the culling bug and move Golems around, and tPvP will still see plentiful Portal use to cover multiple points at once. The only thing this will do is annoy people who use Portal for themselves, and self-Portaling is absolutely fine: it’s its group support capability that cause issues.

TBH I didn’t even realise Prestige did any direct damage worth considering. Now it does damage still not worth considering so no change really. As a skill to give the Mesmer a few seconds stealth, plus applying burning when you reappear, it certainly is powerful in some situations. It certainly isn’t broken, nor is it buffed in any meaningful way.

Indeed, it hits for a nice 1k! It’s the perfect weapon for a power/condition mesmer.
And the stealth let’s you get nice and close to pop the immobilizing clone from 1H sword as well.
