The Synergist is all about focusing aoe skills into potent single target action. Naturally it’s weapon is the mainhand dagger as daggers focus their force to the tip of the blade . Its utility are shouts. Its new mechanic is called compression.

Compression: every 5 attacks/buffs/debuff/heals gain a rainbow colored synergy pip. When you hit 3 pips hit f5 (which is called “sum of its parts”). Your next 3 aoes are altered.

The rules for aoe modification:

  1. all round aoes with target limits are now pbaoe with 240 radius,
  2. only one enemy and one ally can be affected by these skills.
  3. your current target (ally/enemy) has priority over proximity, as long as it is in the effect radius.
  4. all damage is x2, all buffs are x2, all debuffs are x5
  5. debuffs from compressed skills hit you as well x5, even if you are not in the radius, this cannot be redirected to allies
  6. aoes that pulse remain transformed for their entire duration
  7. sum of its parts ends when you use all 3 pips, you cannot gain pips while it is active.
  8. soip had no cooldown

Compressing Shatter:

  • shattering is releasing compressed energy, so sum of its parts takes the potency of the released energy and gives it to you. After all, illusions are a part of the mesmer.
  • shatters are only follow rules 1-3 of compression rules, becaue they do something special instead
  • compressed shatters are PB on you, not their targets, illusions will run to you to achieve this
  • each compressed shatter skill consumes 1 pip
  • you gain one stack of synergy per each shatter that hits you
  • these stacks increase your stats by 1% for 10s
  • a 7 illusion (aka 3 + you, then 2 + you) shatter would consume 2 pips and give you 7% better stats

What this looks like for mantra:

  • MoD has become blackout. It dazes you and the target for 5 seconds with each activation.
  • MoP has become backstab
  • MoRec is unchanged
  • MoRes removes 4 conditions from you or target ally
  • MoC gives 6 stacks of stability to your or target ally

OP interactions:

  • Compressed Time Warp pulses 2s quickness to an ally, 5s slow to enemy and you. Regardless of whether or not you stay within the 240 radius you will have 25s of slow 5s into the skill. Arcane thievery, plague signet + Epidemic, etc make this a very complicated thing to balance. Active testing would short that

The dagger:
Skill 1 is Misdirection

  • 600 range, .25s cast .25 aftercast
  • drop your dagger applying 2s of confusion and 200(.5) damage in a cone in front of you
  • during the aftercast the dagger reappears in your hand, the dagger on the ground dissipates
    Skill 2 is will o’ the wisp
  • 12 second CD, exact same range/cast/aftercast as misdirection
  • the dissipation animation repeats at the spot for 8 more seconds after the skill finishes
  • during those 8s the enemy has the debuff “lost”
  • after 8 seconds they are recalled to the spot, using true teleport (like spectral recall) and the dissipation effect ends, coalescing into a clone on the target
    Skill 3 no name yet
  • 1 second cast, 240 radius, pbaoe, 12 sec cd
  • you hold your dagger above your head, daggers protrude from the ground like caltrops
  • the effect lasts 5 seconds and applies 5 seconds of cripple, this skill can be compressed

The shouts:
“anger”:

  • 0s cast, 30s cd, 600 radius
  • you shout the name of the shout and then the sound for /threaten emanates from all around
  • you aoe taunt 1s
  • compressed you taunt your target 5s and your target taunts you 5s
    Ditto for “fear” except sound is /cower and debuff is 1s/5s fear
    Ditto for “sadness” except sound is /cry and debuff is 1s/5s chill
    Ditto for “disgust” except sound is the soundbite for vomiting and debuff is 2/10 stacks of poison for 4 seconds
    Elite:
    “surprise”
  • 1 second cast, y0s cd
  • sound is /surprise
  • you apply aoe launch for 200
  • compressed you launch your target 1000 and your target launches you 1000…

Please no more F5s for Mesmer. New F1-F4. F5 with no CD would be a nightmare to balance with heal on shatter. Also the F5 modifying all existing aoe skills would be a nightmare to balance in general with how many different skills it would affect.

You want to know what would actually make mantras viable? Basically a tempest elite spec. All of our Fns are now channeled abilities that pulse something over time. A new trait will give us stability whenever we use channeled abilities. Another trait could decrease cast time of channeled abilities by 20-30% (stacks with quickness). This would make sword 2, scepter 3, gs1 and mantras from base class stronger DPS. Would weaken channeled blocks and sword 2 defensively though. That’s why it’s a trait you could swap on and off with another trait that’s worth bringing.

F5 wouldn’t be a shatter any more than entering Astral form is.
