it’s a bug. Hopefully it won’t be fixed (they could update the tooltip though).
Thank to that the Mesmer is incredibly dangerous underwater.
3 clones + time warp >>> everyone dead
Yeah its great for now but is known as a bug and if/when this is nerfed, trident will become one of the lowest damage weapons the game has.
I hope they just fix the tooltip rather than remove the Confusion.
It’s freakin epic.

Ditto to what was said- if they remove the confusion without giving the Trident skills a major overhaul, it will be our worst weapon by far. For now though, enjoy it. That’s pretty much all we can do underwater.

if they fix this by removing the confusion, condition dmg builds would be totally useless underwatter for real, those clones are the only really good way to deal conditions underwater, at a decent pace
Clones’ bounce attacks do not grant boons but heal for a very small amount.
Yeah, trident clones are insanely powerful, but my own trident autoattack is very weak. It does about 100 damage and gives me a boon, that’s it.
Trident needs to be balanced somewhere in the middle, not be a weapon with one overpowered attack and all other skills being crap.
Under water as a condition mesmer I can only kill ppl who are actively attacking me (and thus hurt themselves by confusion). Those who just swim away don’t take confusion damage at all. Trident has nothing else to offer but confusion from clones, the other skills do negligible damage.

well have a blind (#2) and sink (#5) the blind evne with a full condition dmg is okay dmg, but yeah the clones are the only really good damage you can do as condition mesmer

they buffed the whaler quite a bit, its now 8 stacks of bleed + sharper images bleed+2k damage.

I would simply give us that on the main attack, too.
I don’t really see a problem with it, we already have a non-condition weapon underwater.
Trident clones are absolutely amazing. I really enjoy underwater combat on my mesmer. Spear is also great with amazing mobility.
I checked Trident damage with my mesmer (condition build, only 1100 power) in the WvW lakes:
(all numbers are non-crit)
- autoattack: 80 damage
- blind: 350 damage
- clone: no damage itself, just clone
- phantasm: about 500 damage and 4 bleeds (plus maybe some from Sharper Images)
- sink: about 500 damage, but things get a bit weird here. The sink effect seems to have unlimited range, but deals no damage if the range is beyond 1200. Also the target reflects projectiles while sinking (confusion from my clones gets bounced back to them)
Conclusion:
The trident #4 phantasm is actually decent damage. #1 and #2 deal very low damage.
Using #5 will even hurt yourself. Only #3 is what makes trident strong (and only if the target fights back instead of just swimming away).
Another observation I made:
It seeems the confusion from trident clones does not have the doubled confusion damage in PvE and WvW. 10 stacks under water deal about the same confusion damage than 5 stacks on land. Anyone else noticed this?

Yeah I noticed that though they stack a lot of confusion damage aren’t as high as usual.
Well another bug that won’t be fixed … I reckon how would the game be if everything would work correctly (as the tooltips say).
Skill number 5 on trident is interesting. The projectile reflect is annoying, but the skill itself is amazing.
The skill has near infinite range. All you need is a target. Line of sight is not necessary.
The skill hits through defiant, reliably disabling any underwater mob in the game. Additionally, casting the skill on a target that is on land will hardstun them for the duration.
The skill also hits (I believe) through blinds. This is an insanely strong (…bugged) skill, and now quit talking about it.
With trident #5 you can “sink” ppl outside of the water.^^
Dunno what exactly happens with them but I assume they get interrupted or maybe stunned, at least it stops them from moving for a moment.
It hits through most defenses, and doesn’t require los, but while they are “stunned”, not only can you not damage them with projectiles, but the damage gets reflected… You’re essentially feedbacking yourself and your allies when you use the skill.
It has some use in pvp where snares can let you catch up with speedy, retreating enemies, but other than that, it is a mediocre (at best) skill. :|

wow. i didn’t know about the projectile reflect while target is sinking. :O
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
My suggestion how it should be:
Make Scepter autoattack and clone work similar to Staff autoattack and clone.
Let’s say three different conditions, applied randomly: bleed, burn, confusion.
I know it looks more powerful than Staff because there is confusion instead of (useless) vulnerability, but the Staff skills itself are much better. Compare Phase Retreat with the #3 Trident skill, way better and much shorter cooldown. And think about how powerful Chaos Storm is.
