The cloud descends
Don’t forget thief already has ambush. The unique mechanic if Mirage is more the mirrors and mirage cloak effect, rather than stealth triggering ambush.
I mean it would make sense if for example a future elite engi spec had some kind of gizmo that modified their auto attack, similar to ambush mechanics.
On that note, if any class should also have alacrity it should really be engi as thematically it would make sense if they had magic tech that could manipulate time in an elite spec.

As one Dev said of Alacrity, ( paraphrase,) It was too good to be exclusive to Mesmer.
I see that as the probable course for Ambush.
You mean the mechanics of thieves we’re getting? Sorry, bit amused by this, we’re the class used to make sure it’s not a unique mechanic (anymore).
tldr; I’m strongly depressed in real because the Mesmer I’ve always wanted to be is arriving. I think it will be nerfed too hard and lose it’s specialty mechanic.
Lose it’s specialty mechanic? No.
Nerfed to hell and back? Absolutely.

Yeah I really don’t get OPs attitude in this situation.
We’re getting deceptions, a class of utility skills from base Thief.
The elite is basically shortbow 5 from thief in terms of mobility and use.
The ambushes are essentially stealth attacks that trigger on dodge/mirage. Ether barrage (Scepter ambush) looks almost exactly the same as the pistol stealth attack.
Between blink, portal, staff 2 and jaunt (new elite), and also just mechanics in general, the Mirage is basically “stealing” the role of D/P+SB thieves in PvP for mobile back cappers that burst people and run away.
“Boo hoo, the mechanics Mesmers stole from another class are going to be given away.”
If it’s fun and you enjoy it, keep playing. Whether other people have the mechanic too, as long as it’s balanced, shouldn’t affect you that much.
I play a Mesmer because that’s the class I want to be.
Giving away our unique abilities ( confusion, moa, alacrity and now portal ). Weakens and cheapens the class,. That’s how I feel about it.
Alacrity was to be Chronomancer’s signature ability and only ours.
So, in comes Mirage. At first glance, it may be the Mesmer I’ve long wanted to play. Yet I know that large nerfs and sharing of our abilities are likely on the horizon.
It’s like receiving a gift, then having it snatched away. Yes, I’m pretty depressed about it.
What still wracks my mind is that the DPS increase claim by A-net regarding alacrity was debunked, and they did it anyways for a class that has no DPS role, and decent alternatives to tank.
I was fine with Well of Precog nerf, quickness changes, and although I would have made the phantasm more reliable; the shield changes in PvP… But it was even more soured by the Alacrity nerf, which I could have tolerated as a PvP ONLY change even if that was kind of the nail in the coffin for power’s viability.
Dev bias is stupidly strong against mesmers.
I have hope mirage isn’t nerfed to the group, but that same hope has been crushed many times by A-net.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
