Current Trait:

  • Chance to inflict stun whenever you daze a target. Increase daze duration

Trigger Chance: 50%
Stun: 1 s
Duration Increase: 25%

Now notice It adds Duration to Dazes but its Counterproductive with the trait because even if you have 3 secs of Daze, when you proc the trait it still is equivalent to a 1 sec stun.

Rework

  • Chance to transform your dazes to a stun. Increase daze duration

Trigger Chance: 50%
Daze Duration = Stun Duration
Duration Increase: 25%

Now when you trait it, and decided to equip runes of the mesmer, your dazes are now longer, but now when you proc CS, your 1.5-2 sec daze will have a 50% chance of becoming a 1.5-2 sec Stun.

All in all, the daze duration in the trait is not wasted, and daze investment in a build will also be beneficial to the mesmer while retaining the same concept of the trait, Still RNG tho.

The only way to make other (mostly grandmaster) traits viable is to make them as powerful as IP. I honestly doubt if this change will equal IP.

Just look at ele. The only way the little build diversity came to exist is when they added another powerful grandmaster trait.

Just look at ele. The only way the little build diversity came to exist is when they added another powerful grandmaster trait.

I.e. all dazes are now stuns, all stuns poison your unborn children. Something like that.

I like this change. The stun always kind of confused me. This also makes wastrel’s punishment not as horrible as it currently is.

Just +1 sec daze duration would make it a great trait. 2 sec dazes would be an awesome GM, forget the stun altogether. Really just get the kittening stupid kitten rng out of all our kittening traits.

Well honestly I don’t see any reason to take this trait over IP or CI. Even with the buff said above I don’t see why anyone would. Long duration stun is nice, but not neccesary to make a kill. Short duration stuns are good enough already to land bursts for yourself and your team mates. I would rather have the trait making all dazes a 1 second stun and removing the +25% daze duration. Like this you can pre-call your stun, rather than ‘’OH I might stun this target!’’ That’s like calling your burst but you totally miss it and you’re slowly gonna walk away with a sad face 50% of the time.

These are good buffs, also removing RNG would be a good buff. Still, i think that the real best way to enable som build diversity with mes is to make some DE/ IP baseline. Anything else would require reworks that won’t happen.

I’d say the most restrictive thing about ele’s traits is Elemental Attunement (Arcana’s master trait that’s worthy of a grandmaster by itself).

The entire profession is balanced around that trait (in pvp).

Making it +1s Daze duration instead of +25% is long overdue when considering the quite low duration on most Dazes available to Mesmers. While I get that the +50% change to stun is bad due to RNG I feel that +1s Daze duration alone would lack flavour.

The question is: What else potentially build defining could CS do? I’d rather not see Slow or Chill there although it would have fit Domination. Stuff like that should stay with CI. Same goes for Cripple. There’s still Weakness and while I would love a better access to it I’d rather see it being something more exclusive to Necromancers.

I had two more ideas.

Version 1

  • +1s Daze duration
  • Deal 5% additional damage to vulnerable targets

Offers great synergy with the Domination traitline but is rather boring. Also, the additional damage should probably be Wastrels Punishment but who knows if ANet ever changes it.

Version 2

  • +1s Daze duration
  • Continuously deal damage to dazed foes (see Terror)

I personally really like that one.

Both of these are orders of magnitude better than current CS. I’d absolutely love either of these, kitten I hope Anet changes this stupid trait.
