So we’re getting the expac on Aug 1.

Part of me is crawling the walls with excitement. Vabbi is a beautiful land, ( assuming it hasn’t been turned into another Orr. )

The bigger part remembers the hits Chronomancer took and the transfer of Alacrity to Revs.

I could buy the expac for both my accounts… but history suggests the new specialization will receive large nerfs if it is successful. I’m not sure I want to go through that experience again.

In simple terms I just don’t trust. We’ll see what happens. I’d really like a reply from the devs on this.

We’re getting announcement on August 1st, not the expansion itself.

As far as the next elite specialisation (I am prebuying the moment it becomes available, but that’s just me. I fully support people not preordering or buying in the current gaming market, I just love GW2) just don’t get your hopes up. Mesmer are in a unique spot here to be honest. We have a very strong support spec (which I assume even arenanet did not forsee by the amount of rebalance they had to do, which was required unfotunrately. Can anyone say 66% alacrity on release? 0_0) and 0 viability beside that with a very unfavorable mechnic design wise.

I have no problem spending money on the game. I’ve bought 4000 gems this month alone. Thing is, I prefer to buy something because it enhances my experience in the game, and not because not buying it would invalidate it, as was the case with HoT (chrono vs core mesmer in WvW).

First, corporations make investments. ANET would long since have been out of business if they relied entirely on the gem store.

Second, my question of the devs was this;

Are we going to have to go through another cycle of repeated nerfs and seeing our special talents given to other classes ( Moa went to Engi and Alacrity to Rev? ). If that is the case, I don’t wish to support it by buying the new expac, however much I’d like to return to Elona.

Nerf and buffs are part of every game more so of MMOs if you dont wonna stick with the game you are free to do so but i myself will buy because new playstyle areas to explore and crappy story to play throw and mounts to ride so idk.

And tbh this is mostly the reason why the next elite soecs need to be on par with the existing ones. If not from release as close to it as possible. It will just make more ppl happy long term and overall.

I don’t think there is any reason, from a marketing point, to nerf the hell out of first gen elite spec in order to make next gen sellable, if it seems like any new player will now get two specs for one price. As for any veteran players who already owns HoT they can only be happy to pay again in order to have a choice of what spec they want to play I assume. And frankly a planned expansion from the get go would yield more success in terms of balance than a “we originally didn’t want to release a game with an expansion model” HoT expansion in which they also had to create a new class and design an elite spec out of it is such a tight schedule.

HoT was more fishy however since the core game turned free to play in the same year that the expansion was released.
