Theorycraft - Asuran annoyer WvW condi build
I am not super familiar with mesmer condition builds but a few thoughts:
Koi cakes are super cheap right now and amazing for condition builds: 40% condition duration for 50 copper.
Warlock with not be hitting hard in this build. You have neither phantasm traits nor crit dmg/power/crit chance. Staff clones would be better than warlock for this build.
I always thought 15 in dueling was pretty mandatory for mesmer condition builds. I briefly tried debilitating disappation with a scepter in wvw but I found clones don’t die often enough near the target and the bleed doesn’t proc often enough so you really need those illusion crit bleeds to capitalize on the one type of damage your build has.
I’ve always wanted to try the reaper of grenth for a mesmer condition build but I have a sylvari mesmer. Pulsing poison and chill in an aoe around you seems much better than a pulsing poison/weakness in 1 spot. This also synergizes with torch and scepter and clone deaths sort of being pseudo melee weapons. It would also work with sigil of geomancy for bleed spikes.
I think this wouldnt work very well. Phantasm’s have VERY low health and can be easily killed by AoE. You are relying on Phantoms to do the damage but aren’t taking any of the traits that buff them.
I use a Condition build myself though using Phantasms are good you shouldnt rely on them. I would take Feedback coz well its just epic! and i use Mirror Image as well.
I like having 3 clones up (Scepter #1) so that they are close to the target and then use Mirror Image that will “kill” 2 of the clones giving 2 random conditions as well as 2 stacks of Cripple though i do this if i see they are close to dying.
Thx – I definitely don’t know my way around condition builds very well. I think the ideal case is to have a couple staff clones up and hopefully be getting burns and bleeds from them.
I realize I forgot to put in the food and crystal, so here’s an updated link (and I swapped the signet for veil).
The interesting thing is that Torment gets up to a potential 14K damage if someone has it on and moves for the full 14 seconds. For sure, the thing that isn’t clear to me is how much damage really would get applied here from the conditions.
I thought I read somewhere that 10 seconds is the maximum duration possible for conditions – is that true? Thx for the feedback!
Personally for me it depends on the situation if its multiple targets this is my starting actions:
Phase Retreat + Mirror Images near instant 3 Choas Winds casting clones try to be as far out as possible, drop Feedback if they are range. and then Spam #1 and wait for how the fight unfolds
1 Vs 1 i think i would go with the Scepter+Torch combo normally they will try and burst at which point use #2 and get Torment on them, then have 2 options -
- Mirror Images for quick access to clones
- #1 and get them up with the auto attack, requires to keep moving
Either way, once i hit 3 clones i use Mirror Images (if i went route 2) and that will hit the target with 10seconds (iirc) of Cripple as well as 2 random conditions
Things go awry have Torch, Decoy and Mass Invis as “oh crap” buttons to escape and reevaluate the situation
+100% duration bonus is the max. A few traits let you cheat that though.

I’ve been running/promoting this condition build for about a week

When someone asked if staff could be used in place of one of the weapon sets, I suggested this

However there are downsides to a staff + stealth build you have to watch out for. You also lose out on some condition duration.
Here’s what I said
You’ll have the 100% condition duration with the scepter/torch, but only 90% with the staff. What you want is to get 2 seconds of burning off the staff instead of 1. So, forgo the poison on weapon swap and take the +10% burning sigil. That’ll give you 100%, and a full 2 seconds burn (awesome). Now you have the option to spam staff clones and staff auto when you want to kite, then burst with the prestige/scepter/iMage confusion once the enemy is in a tricky spot.
Don’t be surprised if your opponent wigs out though and runs away. Something about staff clones spamming attacks feels overwhelming to people, and they’re smart to listen to their fears and run away.
One other thing I always watch out for with staff is my timing going into stealth. You always have to make sure your last auto attack has finished its course before entering otherwise you’ll break your stealth. Same thing for chaos storm.
The one other thing I’d do is take Compounding celerity for the Inspiration Adept. That way in escapes, I could keep spamming staff 2 for the blink away from the target while gaining 10% more move speed for every active clone still on the field.
Thx Boss – I should have looked at your build more closely. It’s definitely a better implementation of what I had in mind. I’ve been so focused on just phantasm builds that I’ve sort of skipped past all the condition builds previously.
Do you find that this build can take down an opponent pretty quickly? One of the things I really like about the phantasm build is that it can easily apply several thousands of points of damage in a few seconds.
