Been thinking about rolling a Mesmer for a while now. Been toying with one in sPvP and its quite fun since I was playing with S/P. The only thing that bothers me is when I run character builders I see the lack of the following when compared to other classes: No runspeed signet or decent duration swiftness buffs, and no self healing. Isnt it going to be pretty much impossible to level without those two things? I have enough gold to PL myself to 30-40 if necessary to skip the crappy levels or would that not let me learn my class? Oh well if they dont get most of their toys until 40 I probably wont learn much along the way to 40 anyways. And I still have another 40 levels to L2P.

Also what do Mesmers do in WvW? I dont see them as an AoE class which is all zergs do these days is stack Eles and whoever has the most seems to win.

Speed signets aren’t mandatory to level up…. Don’t forget that prior to their buff (+25% instead of +10%) only Thief had a good one. At level 60 you have access to the sup rune of the Centaur which solves the problem :-D
No self healing? Well we are no Water Ele but I suppose we do not worse than other professions: Ether Feast is a solid heal. And don’t forget we have illusions that tank for us.

Mesmers have tons of relevant Utilities for WvW: they don’t just spam damage. And ZergVSZerg isn’t the only thing you can do in WvW. Better playing in a small party.

First, to me Mesmer was easy as hell to lvl.

Who cares if ya dont run as fast as others.

Second we got good enough self heals, at low lvl keep up 3 clones/illu when you use fest and it will heal for a ton.

At higher lvls you can make all mantra heals you and all shatter if you want.

Also if you just wanna be in a zerg, then you can use portal bombing for high damage.

Time warp, to really spd up your damage dealers.

keep up reflect walls, so when other zerg try to long rang you, they hurt themselfs instead.

Their other things to do in zergs, but those are just a couple.

However, Mesmer really shines in small groups.
I’ve made awesome decoy 3-5men groups. Where we trick entire enemies zergs to follow us and give are allies main zerg time to take place’s.
also takes tons of supply routes really fast. Hell my decoy group, even once lead a zerg up a cliff and then trick them off the side. We do tons of epic things in a small group.

Just use any 1hander with the focus till 60. Then just use Runes of the Centaur. I have leveled two Mesmers, the first was a condition staff build, and the second was a zerker GS build. Both times I used scepter or sword/focus as my off hands for running around and GS/Staff in dungeons.

Currently I run GS/staff with a full zerker 20/20/0/0/30 build and do insane damage and have an almost 100% uptime for swiftness.

@Hi, if mesmer been close to impossible to lvl we would not had so many 80 mesmers. Its doable you just have to play in a different way than you used to, we quite unique. Focus on movment and avoid dmg, play your pve like you play pvp and you find a rythm soon enought. Dont focus on heal up taken, dmg, focus on avoid dmg al together and heal when needed.

For wvwvw this is where we trutly shine, its the water we suppose to swim in so to say. Both for smal group and mid size we have a core role.
