Hey guys ive been debating creating a mesmer for a while now and keep hearing mixed opinions regarding the profession. What i am considering is creating a glass cannon shatter mesmer for WvW roaming. Lately i rarely see any mesmers roaming, and when i do, they are always running passive condi PU specs that require to active gameplay, is it because shatter isn’t viable in the condi meta? Is it because they fear the upcoming nerfs to shatter mesmers and their vigor uptime and crit dmg? Am i going to waste my time on a shatter mesmer not being able to kill anyone? I really want to play a shatter mesmer, one of the funner glass cannon specs IMO but i fear itll get really old really fast if i won’t be able to kill any other players or waste all my gold on a outdated spec that is going to get nerfed soon anyways. What do you guys think?

It is fine now and I’m sure it will be perfectly fine even after the patch – sure there will be things to adapt to, but it won’t be unplayable, unlike glamour/confusion.
Yes you need to be committed to play well, and will run into some challenges in opponents, but on the whole there’s little to be concerned about.

Well, the truth is…. it depends whether or not you plan to do Dueling, Solo Roaming and/or Small group?

If you are choosing to duel most of the time you should be fine. It just takes a lot of practice as glass to avoid taking lethal damage. Avoiding lethal damage is not only throwing a defensive cool down at it… but recognizing your enemies Control(Stun/Daze) and subsequent Burst damage abilities.

Solo Roaming is awesome but you have to watch out for Adds(additional players coming to the rescue) unfortunately most of the time not yours. You need to also mentally prepare for Roamers that will completely counter your build look for opportunites with terrain, npc’s and mobs. Mobs like to aggro defensive players so as glass getting any advantage on the field is invaluable.

Lastly, Small groups. Honestly to me this is where Mesmer really shines the utility we bring and the amazing aoe damage through shatters is nothing short of amazing. Plus you have your team to help you when you slip up :p

Glass cannon shatter has a pretty high skill cap but it is very satisfying. I wish you luck!

Also, if you are glassy, Blink is your best friend. Probably even if you’re not.
