Thoughts on Mesmer Shield
A “Mirror Shield” type effect would be ideal, or maybe a bouncing shield throw. We’d need a phantasm, but we already have a shield one as a utility so it could just be moved and revamped.
I’ll repeat myself:
I’d rather see the Mesmer utilise more illusionary weapon skills like Greatsword skill 2. Maybe they could have something like a mainhand shield with skill 1 a sort of illusionary shield thrown like a discus, skill 2 an AoE defend with clone generation and skill 3 a targeted AoE attack. Skill 1 could be the opposite of Greatsword skill 1, where the closer you are the greater your damage output.
Captain America is not a Mesmer.

Engineers have shields yet captain america was not an engineer. Therefore mesmers should be given a shield to allow the illusionary defender to be revamped into it. It will then allow a mobility utility skill to be given to the mesmer (which is really needed).
The Shield doesn’t really fit the Mesmer IMO, as the Mesmer is more about evasion and trickery rather than taking hits. Having said that, an OH Shield with mirror-themed skills could certainly work.
IMO though the Mesmer needs another MH more than it needs another OH. And no, MH Shield is just… no.
Mesmers currently have four off-hand weapons and only two main-hand weapons to pair them with. I would much prefer a new main-hand weapon (of any kind!) to another off-hand weapon to put on the pile.
Besides, the trend (the trend, not the rule) is to have the Phantasm mimic the weapon it was created with. We already have a shield-fighting Phantasm in the Phantasmal Defender. So what weapon would the hypothetical Mesmer shield’s Phantasm wield?
The problem with throwing a shield is the action is copyrighted by Marvel. Seeing as Disney owns Marvel now and has been known to be a bit too… “zealous” in protecting their copyrights, going anywhere near this is just begging for a lawsuit. That’s why City of Heroes’ shield powerset didn’t have a shield throw.

Huh. Wha?! I don’t even remember posting that. But still, I kind of agree with what that past version of myself said. I’d like to see more illusionary weapon skills. I’m not particularly interested in a main-hand pistol.
Mesmer’s are an unconventional class. So I’d like to see more unconventional weapons in their repertoire.

Really? Come on world, this is just dumb.

They’d better remove the engineer class asap then.

I’ve barely played engineers (we’re talking an hour, tops) so I don’t know how their weapons work. They might be able to get away with it if it’s not a ricocheting attack.
that would work and for mesmer every single weapon from gw2 would actually work cuz they could wear the magic version of it. Btw, if a light class can wield a greatsword, it can wield anything

It’s a ricochet. Straight forward, and then back to the Engi’s hand.
Funny part is, that’s the reason my Engi’s P/S – the frigging amusement value.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
This is easy.
The Mesmer doesnt hold the shield. Instead the shield floats, or orbits the Mesmer.
Main hand Shield:
Shield attack 1:- A three chained melee ranged attack that equates to right swing, left swing, upper cut swing. Have attack two deal weakness or a cripple, and attack 3 deal 2 seconds of confusion or something. 200 range or there abouts (mesmer isnt holding it, but it’s not flying all over the place).
Shield attack 2:- AoE daze, steals a boon from every target it hits, deals a solid hit.
Shield attack 3:- Summons a phantasm that leaps 900 range and shield smashes the target to the ground for the uber stun.
You can come up with anything really.
1- Mele attack xxx dmg, every attack give 0,25 sec of reflection.
2- Phaze attack (staff 2) towards enemy, create a clone on your positon
3- Create 2 clones and stealth mesmer.
This would give room for a reflective build, also a good juking setup for mesmerw with shield + x – staff. Juke in with shield, swapp staff juke out.
