Trait-Retaliatory shield does it work or not?

It grants the boon retaliation on block. Retaliation procs damage on hit.
I read it before.. & after trying out with the pvp npc’s it’s really not worth the trait in my opinion. in terms of damage that lands back to it’s source it’s really insignificant unless you crit. It should be like feedback or so. What ever they dish out they shout take it.

The trait works precisely as it says it does, you just didn’t read it properly. The trait applies retaliation, and retaliation acts exactly as it always has. Nothing about the trait implied reflecting large amounts of damage.

thx for the precision on that.

As a side, retaliation can be used punish aoe and cleave spam. In WvW zergs this is an often used tactic. Blast finishers used on light fields procs mass retal on a large cluster of players. Opposing players take 3x or 5x retaliation procs per AA or AoE attack. That quickly adds up.
WvW zerg is about the only place where retaliation shines (since WvW/PvP retaliation damage is reduced by 33%), even then mesmers don’t have the luxury to trade hp with their opponents. It will work better if we have constant healing, like a guard around or something.
