I was wondering of Mesmer and Elementalist which one people who have played both enjoy more I slightly like my Mesmer more. But are there any real drawbacks between the two?

I played around with an Ele for a little bit, but have a Mesmer and love it. The consensus seems to be that eles take more finesse to get down, more work to make really worthwhile, and can make for more difficult gameplay. Again, I haven’t played one, so I can’t give too much insight other than what other people have told me. I think, at the end of the day, though, it comes down to your style of play and what you’re looking for from a character. Don’t let a group of people in these forums talk you out of one or the other – you can always switch if you get into it and find that it’s not for you.

Elementalists are burst mages that rely on killing things before things kill them.
Mesmers are trick mages that rely on jukes, stealth and movement to keep from dying as they don’t have the same burst. In my opinion, a lot more of their damage can be attributed to opponents damaging themselves with feedback bubbles, retaliation and confusion.
Necros, though I know you didn’t ask about them, can be compared as a last class that survives from defensive and life-stealing skills as it has almost no burst, more sustained damage through conditions or pulsing wells/casts/etc.

So far I have really liked mesmer and the way it plays I have probably died a few times more than any other class but they are amazingly fun so far I am only level 11.

While I am at it what are some good crafting skills to go with a mesmer?

I consider Tailoring crucial since all the armor crafts let you make bags and Tailor is the one that makes the armor Mesmers can wear. After that Weaponsmithing/Artificing are about the same in helpfulness, and Jeweling is another useful option. There’s cooking too but I haven’t tried it and it’s explained as the must complicated crafting discipline in the game.

I have tailoring and jeweling as my crafting for my mesmer. So far, not a bad choice. I can see how weaponsmithing/artificing could also be helpful, though.

Hi have Artificing/Cooking, but I have other characters that are all the other crafting skills so I can make myself whatever I need.

Cooking is very simple, and cheap. Go ahead and try it. If you have even a little bit of karma or gold you can do it. I see many people with cooking 400 while their other disciples at around 200~.
