Typical MMO response
Yeap , nothing changes , just that mesmer will not be a viable choice for pvp and most likely for pve ( was a support dps with very bad dps , now with the “support” nerf… gl hf )
The people who have always played mesmer will continue, the other will hop to the new FOTM
You know, I hear this bullkitten dichotomy a lot.
There aren’t 2 groups. Not everyone who will stop playing mesmer is FOTM, and not everyone who will keep playing mesmer is a diehard.
I’ve played mesmer a long time. I doggedly played my condi mesmer before June 23, even though I knew it was suboptimal. But you know, I could only play it in certain modes, even then.
But now, I’ve got a wonderful condi reaper, a daredevil, herald, druid, condi tempest, condizerker, power reaper, sinister engi, and cele guard in my stable of alternatives. And you know what?
This nerf seems guaranteed to make most of those more palatable to play than my mesmer, fun as the mechanics on mes are.
So yeah, I’m probably not gonna play on my mesmer anymore. Unless the math really, really supports it, I’m going to swap from chronotank in raids to guardian tank (or reaper tank). I’ve already shifted over to condi necro in pvp, and it’s been glorious. The pending thief changes have me really excited that maybe I’ll be able to play her viably again.
There’s just…not really room anymore for a class that is mechanically fun but so weak that it is a bit painful to slog through things. Hitting with pillows when everyone else is hitting with swords is not a Good Time, I’m sorry.
Preview happens for a class change.
People act like the world is ending
Everyone claims there “deleting there mesmer”
Everyone claims the “class is useless”
Pyro quits gw2 “again”
The people who have always played mesmer will continue, the other will hop to the new FOTMnothing changes
? People on internet forums like to panic as a hobby, true, but the math is pretty solid on this one.

+1
I mean, I enjoy Mesmer enough that I’ll keep playing it when I’m screwing around. What this nerf does, assuming it goes through, is guarantee I won’t be playing mesmer for anything even halfway serious or competitive. Not raids. Maybe not fractals. Certainly not PvP.

And for my part, I don’t enjoy playing any class other than mesmer. If mesmer is non-viable, then I stop playing the game. When they buff it again, I come back. It’s a pretty simple cycle.
I’ve played almost exclusively mesmer since I’ve started.
This isn’t a “FOTM” ordeal.
No, what they’re doing is dragging the class into hell, yet again.
Over the years, for PvE alone, they’ve been removing our support role.
More and more dungeon bosses and enemies can’t be reflected.
More and more new content with enemies that can’t be reflected.
So the whole “mesmer were reflect and TW bots” became “Mesmers are TW bots”.
Then in WvW, the PU changes actually made it so that thief with smoke fields and blasts, provided stealth more consistently than mesmer.
“Oh, but we had to kill this class with too much stealth!”
Freaking thief had stealth FOR AGES.
The PU swing was really a swing at tanky condi-mesmers ganking people in WvW.
With 0 regard for how it would effect the class elsewhere.
So now, we have alacrity changes to kill ChronoBunker, with 0 regard for how it’s going to effect Mesmer’s PvE.
We literally kill Well of Precog, with 0 regard to the fact that it was one of the 2 useful things we currently do in WvW and GvGs.
I’m a little sick of my favorite class getting an overbearing father figure’s massive shaft every time we get something that’s a little too strong.

And here I got the impression from the WvW forums that they do not care about WvW at all.

All of the forums feel that way.
PvE forums feel like the devs pay too much attention to PvP.
PvP forums feel like the devs pay too much attention to PvE & WvW.
And WvW forums feel like the devs pay too much attention to PvE.
And it’s been that way for as long as I can remember.

For the record: I’ve drifted away from Mesmer before the preview (berserker better for same role I like to play. Also more fun :D)
Hell, I even came up with a new, good, carrion p/p venomshare daredevil.
FOTM? rofl XD

after years of playing a free wins profession it is too much for these players to handle actually requiring skilled gameplay
after years of playing
a free wins profession
lol
Clearly somebody got smeared on the floor by a mesmer too many times because they didn’t bother learning how to play well.

the fun thing is i say this because i grabbed mesmer and within 3 hours i was demolishing people as if i mained the freaking profession since launch by spamming conditions
the same goes for reaper and druid
so either A i am extremely talented at mastering professions quickly or B: this professions have an incredibly low skill ceiling

or C: you were fighting bads and didn’t realize it because you’re not qualified to make that type of judgement call.
or D : somebody went on the internet and told LIES!
nothing changes

Actually ANet listens to the feedback, just go check other threads. Ppl crying about how mesmer is strong, while they havent even played it (obviously).
All this crying is connected with the bad state of mesmer from before when u barely seen any mesmer in pvp. Ppl get so scared that they have to face something new they havent met in pvp for the past 3 years.
The new “viable” mesmer is the same as the new Revenant. Ppl crying about it, coz they have to adapt to something new they havent faced before.
So what ANet does with it? Well make it trash. But as somebody said, maybe we dont see the whole thing. The deletion of defensive stats amulets from sPvP boosts shatter mesmer a lot. So maybe the theorycrafting comunity should take it in consideration as well.
Ppl tend to compare Mesmer with Thief ->
In my opinion: If the defensive amulets will be enough to let mesmer burst ppl effectively, then Thiefs high damage would be considered overkill and thus Mesmer would be better for its better map presence.

This is funny.
I picked up Berserker for this season and ran it through Ruby into diamond. Warrior was pronounced dead from its HoT BETA weekend. I had great success with it.
So am I extremely talented? Or like Mesmer, is Warrior super easy requiring incredibly low skill for great success in this meta? XD

He might have been chronobunker… You know the build where you do whatever on your point t and can basically ignore the enemy?
