Vertical Teleports being removed?!?
Mellowpuff [Champion Hunter]
Vertical porting isn’t being completely removed. Just some spots are not going to be able to be ported to. What/where this means seems to be up in the air and will really be a “wait and see”.
One thing’s for sure – if our mobility does go down, we’re going to be hurting quite a bit.

Either way it will hurt us, and I’m hoping it is only specific areas. but remember early in the game anet removed almost all vertical sports before undoing the nerf a week later due to all the bugs popping up. If it’s to the scale they did it last time, this is one hell of a nerf incoming.

One thing to note is that this won’t hit only mesmers. A change like this will produce a massive outcry from thieves, eles, and to a lesser extent necros as well. This doesn’t make it any less of a slap to the face to us, but it does mean that other classes will be clamoring for it to be removed as well.

This is the case for sure, whether or not anet listens is another thing. The reason I’m so worried about Mesmer (and necro) especially is how much the really on vertical jukes and positioning as there main form of survivability. D/D bruisers and thieves use it moreso for mobility and gap closers, while this is a nerf for them as well, I dont think it will effect there viability nearly as hard.

Almost all teleport spots, yeah. For example on legacy graveyard you will be able to teleport to the tier 2 ledge but NOT the tier 3 ledge
^ Usually only characer that i play on

Ahh in this case there must be a vertical range max of around 400 or so perhaps? Can you go from the second to the top?

Apparently so, yes

Maybe they fixed teleports failing on perfectly flat ground at the same time?

Hahahahah haaahaha hahahaha hahaha….. oh,……you were serious!

Of course I wasn’t serious lol
Tell me about it. I main the two classes most rankled by this bit. And I absolutely doubt they’ve -in return- managed to fix pathing issues, for ’ports or otherwise.
(Hell, it also really frags over Necros … considering that after ANet’s “fix” of DS/damage overflow properties, Spectral Walk and Wurm are about it, for their escapes.)

Hmm… Porting is the big part of sustain for mesmer… Now blink will not help against even enemy leap-like abilities?

Don’t forget guardians too.

Ehhh… which ones of those described in the following link would that be? xD

Basically tier 3 is the highest up ledges and tier 2 are the ledges that are lower down.

If it’s the same as the last time they were doing it, and according the way people are speaking it would effect pretty much all the foefire spots.

It’s a shame really…mesmers are forced into a hit n’ run meta because we need to invest on extreme stats to deal reasonable damage as oppose to others, then they remove the run part.
Maybe they can buff illusion health to improve our effectiveness in teamfight?
lol

I don’t mind hit and run, but when our hard-counter is an assassin class that will hunt us down and now the removal of vertical ports so we have no chance to juke off thieves it leaves me wondering how on earth are we gonna be viable?
Also in a side thought. How kittening strong is LB rangers going to become :P

I know, right? Even with Rabid amulet; if you are fighting someone else and a Ranger walks up 1500 units away and Rapid Fire’s you, you’re usually dead. Other classes would take longer and/or would need to get close to you for the same thing.
Then again; most Rangers are toast if I can get close to them. But I often silently raged inside when they just snipe me down out of nowhere; before I even had a chance to actually see them. With Rabid amulet nonetheless. Not zerker. And on a really short cooldown. With 10-15 stacks of vulnerability.
I really need to continue leveling my Ranger. ;P

For sure, there a brutal class to +1. Now imagine there on the top of clocktower in khylo. You cant blink up to him, you gotta run on the narrow step through his LB. Thiefs/guards cant use there port gap closers. Essentially they would have 100% control of clock tower.

Really, I’m interested in seeing the effect this change has on thieves. Mesmer already doesn’t exist in the meta, so that’s obviously not going to change. There’s a distinct possibility that this could make life incredibly difficult for thieves given smart positioning by rangers and such. It’ll be very interesting to see what happens.

The good news is that if Thieves do suffer, Mesmers get to step into the space. Only unlike thieves we have options that allow us to stick it out.
Just the other day it was mentioned how “under-represented” mesmers were in TPVP…
meh.

teleport like blink and shadowstep are only meant to take you to places where you can walk to (within the specified range). It was never meant to get you from the ground to the freaking rooftop (caugh battle of khylo caugh). This is how it always should have been. There’s a reason why we have “portal” and “shadowstep”.
it will kitten mes and, on a bigger extent, thief but this change makes the mechanic what it should have been in the first place. let’s just hope that they improve teleport pathing in the process.

It’s already “take you to places where you can walk to (within the specified range)”. Search for some WoodenPotato video that shows how it works.
And who define “what it should have been in the first place”? In 1st place should be thing that works. And ports already works for fight style diversity from my standpoint.

I really hope so, but I just can’t see it happening. GS wars would will take the thiefs roaming spot due to better mobility and with guards/mes/thief without reliable gap closers LB rangers would have to be the second choice roamer. At least thats what I can see being the most effective.
