Hi!
I been wondering what to roll for some time now, and after discarding Ranger, Engineer mostly for all that bad i keep hearing abaut them. and because ranger feels so boring. Engineer is simply missing the weapon selection of normal weapons, that can obtain skins to, and are not kits.
I was thinking or going back to my Mesmer. Though i still didnt fully accepted the theme of the character, with all that sparkle, and fluff, instead of the indepth dark feeling, like it had in Gw1, i could get over it. If it is worth it.
Atleast the class seems a bit underplayed, compared to Ranger and Warrior. And does have a synergy with its own skills and traits and builds, unlike Necro.
Though i kind of miss some sort of bow or a rifle, instead of pistol,, and unsure how to put out some direct damage, but i dont really even care for that right now.
What i want to know is : Is Mesmer viable in Fractals? Or for Runs?
I keep hearing, that runs are quite different from normal dungeon pugging.
I heard many opinions, but nothing basically asknig this directly.

Totes viable.
Most seem to run a glass cannon berserker build/gear set-up. Here’s an example of a 50+ fractals mesmer talking about his experiences (with videos):
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/77427-dream-proxys-high-level-50-fotm-guide-with-videos/
Additionally, a recent Reddit post had a group run with what I think was 3 guardians, 1 warrior, and 1 mesmer running a similar build to the one I linked above.
While I’d love to see more classes running high-level fractals, I will say that the berserker/glass cannon thing is currently the best ‘viable’ fotm spec for the class. If you want to go Condition, Tank, or Support while doing 40+ fractals and being a mesmer, you may have a hard time. Though you’d probably have a hard time doing those roles and that level of fractals with most classes.
personally i’ll say that berserker is not the best choice for fotm.
This from a berserker mesmer ._.
I am currently 16 with mesmer and 30 with ele.
In most parts surviving is the best thing and nobody cares of dps…. there are no wp in fotm…
BTW mesmer has some skills that makes some fractals really fast and easy.
1) portal….this makes things easier in swamp/uncategorized (not they are hard anyway).
2) FEEDBACK O use feedback on dredge suit when its about to spam bombs and see al bombs bounce to himself for a huge dmg and time saving
Also good in uncategorized fractals
3) underwater skills, makes mesmer really useful underwater (opposite to ele….that is just a burden)
4) Maw: GS is somehow not considered a ranged weapon, so cannot be bounced by colossi.
5) legendary shaman:
DPS is good, also quickness also feedback, and also again fast Attacks.
6) ascalon: aside some tricks to get shortcuts, mesmer gives more target to mobs that are really oneshotting everything here at higher lvl….so it better be a clone rather than a player.
Where the mesmer is really bad:
Svanir stage >_> you cannot really do much here you should just try to survive….
Ascalon: shatter builds will struggle considering deceptive evasion won t work -.-
Lava shaman: despite you help a lot with the shield you if you are focused by the boss you just die fast.
Suggestion of the day:
Superior sigil of generosity on a greatsword makes all easier.
P.S. doing fotm with 3 guardians doesn t count ._.
I did once lvl 30 with 3 guardians… it changes from being oneshot to facetank everything….
Huge burst DPS is always welcome. I have had a fractal group up a few times we run, 3 shatter mesmers and 2 warriors. The Vets die in about a second =)

Fractals level 34 here. You are very wrong.
DPS is still very important in high level fractals. In addition as you go higher dodging and damage mitigation ends up much more important than just absorbing everything on your gear, making all glass cannons fairly viable as long as your skill level can keep pace. Finally, as you’ll read on these forums we Mesmers are one of the most Glass Cannon friendly professions available due to the huge and varying damage mitigation skills we have, many of which require little investment. We’re talking Blurred Frenzy, Chaos Armor, Chaos Storm, Distortion, Feedback, Phantasmal Warden, Traited Temporal Curtain and 2 block skills. Combine a reasonable portion of those with well timed dodges and maybe even some vigor options and you’re looking at a Glass Cannon Mesmer staying up throughout just about every Fractal scenario at pretty high levels, while not murdering their DPS.
In addition the Svanir stage is great for Mesmers, reflects, Phantasms that can tackle the Elemental source constantly and massive confusion damage on the Svanir Shaman. The Grawl Shaman also is a spot where we shine, I quite often go through without downing, with high mobility to kite Elementals, reflection to severely slash the Shaman’s DPS and the aforementioned lotsa damage mitigation. Any Mesmer who has problems here, assuming it’s not because all their teammates are dying and they’re the last Bookah standing, is most likely not watching and dodging the Shaman’s Agony Arrow, or tackling the Elementals poorly.

Lava shaman: despite you help a lot with the shield you if you are focused by the boss you just die fast.
The higher you go the more your just gonna get one shotted anyways. Killing things faster is always better, just learn to see the moves and dodge them. Mesmer is one of the best classes in the game at dodging damage.
You think a war or guard with full PWR/TGH/VIT armor survives any better than one with GC armor in the higher fractals? the answer is nope.
I would also like to point out here if you get focused with agony arrow and you didn’t dodge… Just hit F4 or use blurred Frenzy. Negates the whole attack.

I play a knight set ele also lvl 30….not even comparable…..despite i do lot less dmg than mesmer, and survivability skills are better on mesmer (save for the lack of healing), ele won’t be oneshot so easily.
And yes considering that with knight ele i have LESS defensive STATS than a GC warrior even the war won t be oneshot.
A thing is dying to a warrior burst in ascalon….another is getting oneshot by rangers.
p.S. it seems few players can get the difference between “reaction” and “prediction”…
Its quite hard to use blurred frenzy on “reaction”, having half sec casting time.

I am only currently at fotm 15 so Idk about higher difficulties, but from my experience so far mesmer can easily run fractals and dungeons with no difficulties. I rarely ever die in fractals even when the group is only semi-competent. Dungeons… that really depends on the group once again. All in all, mesmer is a class with amazing survivability that is also able to deal great dps.
lvl 71 (in fractals) full zerker mesmer here. Most of the times im the last man standing,
Play style is get in with dodge then leap and blurred frenzy (2 sec inv) then dodge away and range wiyh gs or staff.Rinse and repeat.
U have F4 (more inv) and Decoy (Stealth that drop targets) if things goes wrong.
So if somehow after combo u got caught u can distort -> decoy and gtfo.
I dont have any problems surviving at high fractals fractals.
I only die when skipping mobs and forgot to equip focus or somehow my team passes and i get all the baddies agro on me (high mobility class? yeah…)
And we have awesome utilities for fractals:
TW in all of them (v fast rezz & uber dps):
Ice : feeback elementals, portal before when boss tp team
Shaman : feedback, illusion of life, interrupts on throw rocks phase
Colossus : null field awesome
Ascalon: TW charr army
Dredge : Feedback is awesome here on trash mobs and dredge boss, null field to strip
boons from trash kitten.Veil + mass inv for running bombs.
Swamp: portal, feedback on bloomhunger
Water: this thing is easy anyway :p
Uncategorized: feedback, warden, and on last boss pull with temporal curtain
And yeah u can negate agony ticks (except jade maw) with any sort of inv in the case of mesmer with BF or F4.
Not to mention that illusions are allways a distraction for bosses → less attacks on mates.
Mesmer imho is second to guardian in usefulness in fractals.

The thing on ascalon is to no get aggro.U have an army of charrbros for a reason :P
