[Video] Hybrid PU Mesmer - WvW Roaming #4
Do you offer lessons?
Fort Aspenwood
It’s PU. You don’t need lessons
Why are you running DE when you don’t shatter? I only watched a couple minutes, as PU isn’t very exciting to watch. But if your damage is primarily coming from phantasms, it seems pointless to be running DE…
I think hes running DE cause he uses Chaos V .

I don’t offer lessons, nor do I intend to. What I perhaps could do, is to include some analysis in the form of text bubbles to my videos, if you think that would be helpful?
As Nubu said, Deceptive Evasion does work well with Debilitating Dissipation. But mostly, clones from greatsword as well as sword can stack a nice amount of bleeds with Sharper Images, and Deceptive Evasion helps keeping a constant flow of clones.
Hm well few mistakes here and there:
- 0:45, instead of blinking to use I-wave you could’ve waited on that range and keep dmging the thief, use veil if you needed some protection. Whereas you saw the thief using SR, you couldve blinked to SR, use Iwave to knock him out the SR and finish him off as he clearly didnt had much knowledge about what he was doing.
- At 0:53 you didn’t have to use veil. You couldve dodged the mirror blade and the illusionary berserker if he’d casted it while you could still damage the mesmer.
A bit later you cast your I-duelist in the enemies feedback. If you’d press escape you could cast it 5 seconds later outside the feedback. - At 1:53 you didn’t have to blink. Actually, it was better to stay on range due that the moment you moved close to him, he could’ve knocked you off the roof, do 1 izerker and finish you off.
- At 1:57 you clearly targeted a clone and I asume you have auto target on so you were spamming iduelist to spawn. I’d suggest to turn auto target off so you will be almost 100% sure you’ll cast it on the right person unless he stealths on the moment of casting with more possible enemies around you.
- At 2:20 if the lord critted you twice there you would’ve been dead. Couldve better just used f4 as safty there in case another player would come around or if the guards would hit more than what they did now.
- 2:38, if you notice a ranger doing his ’’Barrage’’, especially when your clones are in the area, just spam that f3. You’ll get 5 stacks might and a random boon and a chance if a clone from further away moves to him to do that again.
- 3:15, more a bit of general thing here but if you have #3 sword ready and you wanna dodge, then you can do that both at once if you are fast enough with spamming 3. You’ll leave a clone behind + #3, which makes it hard to spot for the enemy that you actually casted illusionary leap, and you can immobilize right after.
- 3:22 you casted your iduelist when you clearly had blind on you. Try not to focus a bit on the duration of the blind as it was only 1 more second this time.
- 4:10 If you have a dps guard close to you, you can almost be sure to be kittened so just push him away the moment you see him. He already used his blink to get to you so you would’ve been able to just freecast if he wouldve been knocked off or if you notice the engi is below and pretty much isnt doing anything, why not focus on the guardian? You knew he was squishy due the damage he dealt and you were pretty much alone. 1 good burst on him + pushing him off would’ve killed him.
*5:08 same as 3:22 - 6:22 if you see an enemy walk to your dead enemy which you want to finish but is already 60% hp, why then not just burst him? You had your iduelist ready and you could’ve easily just casted that to prevent the full ress before the stomp. He also already used his #2 so he couldnt blink away. You could’ve stunned the warrior too and use f4 as immunity to be sure that the warrior wouldn’t interrupt the casting.
I didnt really watch the whole video but these are globally the most important ones. Few mistakes in damage rotation/timing but not that bad. You have good awareness of you terrain as you often stay calm and blink on roofs and such.
Try to just not stealth if you don’t need it. Sometimes you just use veil while you don’t even need it
Thank you for your kind words and constructive criticism
I shall take these pieces of good advice to heart and try to improve in the future!
And thanks for posting the build in the first place, I truly enjoy playing it!
Every time i see 1v X vids all X’s are usually noobs. I refer to first part of vid 1. In my experience ppl who are not at list 100+ rank usually suck. Unless they did a lot PVP before WvW. Sorry have no patience to watch it all. Still nice vids and good job. I am curios how you do against cond builds with just 2 cond removal every 20 sec.
Well if those ’’X’s’’ are skilled players then it wouldn’t be a 1vx video unless you see the dude filming only losing.
Also, ranking says nothing. Enough noobs in there, but also enough skilled players who aren’t in there.
As for the condition problem, you can look up my latest video where I feature a fight with 2 necro’s and also give commentary with text during the fight.

In regards to the skill level of my opponents, it’s pretty much what doiid said. If I’m up against 2+ players who are more skilled than I, chances are I’ll get owned, hard.
Versus condi specs I would claim that you need to handle each condi class differently.
Condi mesmers – Ignore clones, don’t attack their scepter blockm let your illusions rack up the bleeds and most condi PU mesmers I’ve fought just melt.
Condi engis – I’ve actually never had the pleasure of fighting any truly skilled condi engis, but they are very melee focussed —> Keep the distance, dodge the magnetic pull and just kite them to death.
Condi warriors – Can actually be quite the nuisance (9 stacks of confusion on interrupt can be a pain), on the rare occasion that I face one of these, I find I have to slot Phantasmal Disenchanter.
Condi necros – Highly annoying, my personal worst nemeses. Keeping a good distance is highly recommended. You can theoretically slot Phantasmal Disenchanter + Mantra of Resolve + Null Field, depending on how bad you are vs how good they are
Condi thieves – They don’t normally seem to pose much of a threat, just time your dodges and Blurred Frenzy well.
Condi rangers?
Condi guardians?
Condi eles?
I personally run MofR all the time ie with same build as yours can remove 6 cond. I asked coz was curios how well you deal with cond. I have no issue with any cond builds besides engy. I met 1 guy whom i fought 10 times and newer was able to kill. Skilled engy is very rare but if you see one run away. In PVP skilled engy probably hardest class to kill. Necros on other hand are very easy to kill, i rarely loose to them.
Don’t get me wrong but about cond thieves you have no idea what you are talking about. Dire thief can caltrop you to death very fast jumping around and newer give you a chance to hit him. Caltrops kill phats and clones fast as well.
Guards have no cond per say. They have only fire which is not staked ie not worth mentioning cos it is instant and usually gone faster then you can remove it but does a lot of dmg. Eles in my experience rarely do big cond dmg. Usually i see 2 types. PTV with very little DPS or Zerked. Zerk eles have highest DPS in the game but die easy due to low HP. PTV takes too long to kill.
Rangers ATM are not worth to be discussed. 80% are bearbow and other 20% with some skill very limited by class mechanic and easy for mesmer to kill.

You’re totally right! I haven’t got the foggiest what i’m doing. But i’m having so much fun while being so bad at it ^^
Sincerely,
The thief who doesn’t know what he’s doing

I’ve got a clip featuring double necros in my upcoming video, and I will try to find more encounters with condi classes in the future.

I’m talking about my experience. I don’t deny that there are skilled players of any class out there. But the condi thieves I’ve been up against haven’t posed the biggest of threats.
My WvW rank 472 i have seen them all.:) Basically what dire thief does is hit you then C&D of you or clones invis caltrop and hit you again. Direct dmg is minimum but bleeding is huge. They usually d/p p/d or p/p with a lot of HP and tough. It is impossible to kill dire thief 1v1 unless he is a total idiot. They kill you or run reset come back and kill you.
Another very unpleasant type is full glass. They can backstab 10+k on 2k or 7-8 on 2.6k of armor. I have seen as high as 16k backstabs on me in full zerk but on regular basis it is 10-12 on zerk phat build. Backstab, heartseeker C&D and you are on your kitten but they die very easy if you catch them off guard. I honestly prefer to fight glass and not dire.
Thieves are main reason for PU build.
vs CnD spammers you need to shatter often, they can’t CnD on a running illusion in shatter mode, and wasted CnDs cost a lot of initiative.
The backstabbers can indeed be nasty if you aren’t prepared. It’s especially bad if you are playing outnumbered with a competent backstabber in the mix.
