[Video]PU (scrub) shatter mesmer solo roaming
oooo yet another video of another mesmer pressing 2 blink f1… over and over……. god so boring as kitten..
rofl tc “solo” roaming – fighting in the safety shadow of a friendly zerg or tower lol.
I started crying 6:15 " ma halllpp the instagib didn’t work wp wp wp wp noooo"
pu and torch does carry bad players
can you tell me what fun you had?
it reminds me the cheat ppl were used to go below the surface and killing ppl
pu seems like it now
The players who wanted to fight showed that Mesmer is not that op. The rest just like pre patch is bursting from stealth.
I dont think it’s a good idea to try to balance a class based from wvw roaming perspective. I kind of remember one of the dev said wvw isn’t balanced. Most players you bump into aren’t likely running roaming build with full zerker+food, but rather majority are running tanky support build who aren’t designed for 1v1, but simply trying to catch up to their commander somewhere on the map. Im pretty sure that top mesmers in tournaments will not be running PU because too much steatlth is only a minus I beilieve. If I see double mesmers from top teams running PU, then I would say to nerf it.
Based on the ranks and guilds tags (yes, I said it: guild tags), there are a lot of bads in this video. Not exclusively! And I’m not complaining or trying to belittle your skill. Just best to keep that in mind.
I am, however, straight-up embarrassed for the Gold Invader thief who goes off on your clones while you’re obvious stomping their friend. How does a thief not expect a stealth-stomp there?
I think main takeaway here is that PU can definitely carry you (that duration is huuuuge given how mesmer bursts are timed), but it does, in fact, have some limitation: all you’ve really got is burst, stealth, and a teleport. It plays a lot like a thief.

In NA T1, only frontline is super tanky (tankier than typical in T2/T3, as far as I’m aware — at the expense of their DPS, of course). Backliner, pick team, and most of the random folks in the tail tend to be pretty glassy so they can actually hit the enemy hard.
Definitely a lot of the folks you’re seeing here are glass: thieves, longbow rangers, mesmers, mediguards. Some militia-type folks just hanging around by themselves may still be rocking PVT gear (from back in the ancient days when people would straight-up tell you that was the correct thing to do in WvW for all classes), but I doubt it.
So you’re playing a,
Full zerk wearing, AFK bursting, A-typical pre patch power shatter Mesmer, montaging one trick pony clips vs either full zerk or low health pool targets in WvW.
Obviously we all know there’s plenty of pre-patch montages of this same thing.
The fight where you have to use the keep to cover you, and fights like the 6:00 mark say it all

I saw a video recently about class balancing and how in FPS games, a noob gun (that is very powerful for how easy it is to use) is provided so that newbies have some fighting chance against pros. The pros/experienced players don’t use the noob gun themselves since there are better choices for them. The reason the gun exists in the first place is to encourage new players to continue playing the game until they no longer need the crutch of the gun and move onto other weapons. If the gun did not exist, new players would get frustrated from being farmed over and over again and would quit the game before getting the necessary experience to compete with others.
PU reminds me of the noob gun. From my experience, its generally used by new/inexperienced players to carry them vs other inexperienced players and to have somewhat of a fighting chance against pros.
As a mesmer, I used to hate seeing other mesmers use PU because I viewed it as a “troll” build. However, after seeing the video maybe other classes need more access to an easy to use/high reward build so that new players can get acclimated to PVP without getting facerolled in the first 5 seconds.
This is not to say that PU is the answer for mesmers either or that it is fine as is. I think it generally leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth to have to go against it. I just don’t view it as badly as I did before.

The introductory post says this already. I think OP is aware.

Yup.

It has nothing to do with PU. WvW roaming has been like this. Even before patch, you rely on those food/stacks buff, so you get enough burst to one shot squishy target. Thieve do this even better.
Just go check all the shatter mesmer roaming vids before patch. 80% of them are like this. That’s why I never found WvW roaming fun. Good fights are rare. Most of the time you either steamroll some clueless folks or you get hunted down by some 3-4 man gank squad.
PU only really helps you escape and survive, which is of course important. But it does not help you one-shot other players. Shatter mesmer still gonna stealth gank with prestige and mass invis.
OP’s vid is actually pretty nice in that it shows a good all-around overview of PU roaming. Not just one-shot foes but some deaths and struggles as well.

Also just to remind you, if PU stayed at the same +1s length as prepatch, it would be objectively worse. The boon duration from chaos line was lost so the defensive boons from PU last shorter. So you won’t be able to rely on PU as much to help you recover in a fight.
