I don’t think so, cause 6*divinity gives +12% critical damage, and +60 to all stats, not much in my opinion, and rune of air, gives +10%crit damage, swiftness when you heal, and 30% chance to create lightning when hit, and with some vigor and fury, you can get ~4k crit damage with lightning, also swiftness last longer if I’m not wrong

I still don’t like how little you have Chaos Armour running. Unless you’re hiding with clones, I reckon it shouldn’t ever be off cooldown. Especially since it’s an instant cast.

One queston I notice you took Master of Manipulation(in Flimp’s Condition Build:) but have only 1 skill it effects Blink. Is it worth it for 6secs to use a trait?

Absolutely! Think of how long 2 seconds is when you’re stunned/rooted and getting hammered – 6 seconds could save your life. With the reduction in CD, it also makes it easier for you to rotate between decoy, prestige and mass invis.

I am always impressed how you take on many people…and still able to finish people off. Takes skill to handle mobs solo. Love all your vids, and thanks for posting them.

Decoy and mass invis help little cause of all the channeled attacks that still hit me anyway.
Only with lowbies or really dumb ppl do i pull off stunts like that when outnumbered 3/5:1
But i can’t say i’m a great pvper anyway, i know im just an average player.

Dodge while invis and do not continue in same direction you where going when you use decoy. Roll to the side and go at 90 degree angle if you can.

Moddo has the gist of it. Never go in the same direction as you were going. unless the player has 3 monitors setup, its easy to get into the enemies’ blind spot

You’ll get there, just keep pvping in small groups and keep trying to fight zergs. You’ll eventually find your limit and know when to get out and when to stay to fight.

Recording your fights and watching them also helps especially in those moments where you died and you had no idea why. For example, the ending scene for my latest clip haha. I was like WHAT!?!?!? What just happened??! hahahah

Actually, what I did run a few tournies with it. It served as a good bunker build, I just did not stay in stealth as long as you do. I am still able to cause mass confusion like you do by having so many clones in one small area. I am tempted to drop 10 from Chaos to put 10 into Illusions. Though defense would drop a bit (and boon duration), I still gain more into condition damage. But I am not doing it for that reason, I would do it for the illusionary persona, plus the might would be good for damage with conditions.

Edit: Oh, I was very impressed that I was able to spike down an unsuspecting D/D bunker ele while trebbing. I let him go though to support the rest of my team. One of the first time I beat D/D ele solo…..

Yeh. Definitely drop 10 in chaos for persona in tpvp. No need for prismatic understanding. Persona would be alot more valuable…

I am impressed by how well you play the condition build. I was trying out something similar earlier today but was unsure how feasible it was, you put my fears to rest. Now I just need a few years of practice to be able to play like that. :P

Also a note regarding a comment on one of your videos, swapping 10 points from chaos into illusions won’t give much of a bonus to condition damage due to the minor trait in the chaos line (5% of toughness converted to condition damage). Apologies if this was already mentioned, posting here as people seem to miss it.

I think my favorite part of these videos is watching Shortbow rangers DPS themselves down when confused and consistently not seem to get it. Every time I see those clips I start cackling, “Yes. Yes. Keep shooting his face.”

Haha yeh. The funny thing is you can tell from the start whether the enemy is a button spammer or not and whether they’re gonna blow themselves up on confusion xD

Oh Sorry, didn’t see this post. Can’t make them available to mobile cos of music copyright issues :S Youtube seems to have a strict policy on music… Volume 3 and 5 are available cos 3 is a remix and 5 is not mainstream music I guess.

In regards to the 0/20/20/0/30, key difference is Prismatic Understanding. I absolutely love PU with the amount of stealthing I do, it really helps with heal/skill cooldowns and especially when stomping.

PU also has great synergy with this build. With high toughness, signet of inspiration, illusionary membrane? (the one that gives protection from regen?) lyssa runes, chaos storm and chaos armour, you’ll find that you’ll have a lot of protection, regen and block popping up.

Getting the 25 trait in chaos is also good since you have high toughness and 5% of your toughness is roughly… 80~90 condition damage.

0/20/20/0/30 is also a good build and you’d be getting that only for persona and the might stacking. Persona is great in all builds but I think PU would be better for my style of fightining or for small scale WvW.

Overall, 2 main things for success in WvW imo is to be able to get out when you need to and to be able to stomp when you down someone. Persona can help but not as much as the block / +1 second duration in stealth.

Yup. You’re 100% correct.

Having started with the persona trait initially in my shatter build, I took it for granted and it took a while to adjust to not having instant daze/distortion. I still haven’t gotten 100% use to it but as a ranged condition tank WvW roamer, I think Pu has more value and synergy than persona.

I think my biggest challenge is learning to be aware of the positioning of my clones, predicting the enemy’s action and timing my daze taking into consideration the time it takes for the clone to run over. I hardly use daze and it’s something I’m working on, on top of pressing staff 4 more often haha.

Excellent videos FLIMP! I also play a condition build very similar to yours. As I was watching, I noticed you really don’t have much in terms of condition removal. How do deal with conditions in your build? Currently I run Mender’s Purity but have considered switching to Prismatic Understanding because it synergizes much better with my playstyle. However, I’m constantly paranoid that I will get eaten alive by condition-packing foes. I use Null Field, but that’s on a pretty lengthy cooldown. Any tips?

@Palu – It’s all about condition management – lots of running, decoying, blinking and when things get hectic and i’ve got too many, that’s when I use my mass invis with lyssa runes to clear all conditions. I’m also using -40% condition duration food so that helps too! Hope that helps you

@Cytomatrix – Yeh, no more gangnam hahaha though I did find a good remix lately… :p It’s hard to record in-game music because I play music when I play and that get’s caught in the recording as well… unless you know a way. Other option is to have a separate computer/laptop/sound system playing music but that’s too inconvenient :/

On a side note, I was so excited to see you in hotjoin pvp last week, I proceeded to forget I was in a new build and got stomped. I know that’s not the only reason I lost but it was fun to see you nonetheless.

Your condition build is almost identical to mine, though I daresay you play it better than I do. A few questions:

Do you think the build would be more effective if the Sword is used instead of the Sceptre? I find Confusing Images difficult to use if your opponent isn’t distracted (i.e. group fights), as your target can generally negate most of it and you are quite vulnerable (and visible) during the channel. It feels to me that Blurred Frenzy serves me better, especially against Thieves; and Illusionary Leap provides a much needed root.

Why do you use Signet of Inspiration? I personally don’t find it useful as it doesn’t provide Swiftness consistently enough, and I’m generally in no hurry to get from one place to another. Is there another reason you use it?

Have you considered using Pain Inverter? Personally I love it, you can use it with CoF for a huge AoE Confusion burst; and it also lasts considerably longer than Shatter Confusion. Effective in duels and absolutely devastating against groups.

What do you think of +40% Condition Duration food instead of -40%? I find it greatly increases the effectiveness of my Confusion (especially if your enemy is using -40% food), and enemy condition builds seems rare enough that it’s generally safe to run without condition removal: I use none and have not died to enemy condition builds (yet).

@Embolism – Someone asked me this question previously so I’ll sort of copy and paste. Sorry if it’s a bit long lol.

Sword, Scepter, Torch, Pistol – They all work well with each other and I can most of the time achieve the same outcome but the key difference is the choice of utility that goes well with the weapon. In my case, it comes down to inspiration vs mirror images. If you use scepter, you have the option of picking mirror images OR signet of inspiration. If you use sword, you’re almost locked into mirror images as it’s a no-brainer choice.

The reason why I like inspiration is because it has great synergy with my current build which has a strong focus on boons.

Boon sources:
Healing = random boon from Lyssa runes
Chaos storm
Chaos armour
Mass Invis = all boons from Lyssa runes
Critical hits on clones = vigor
Signet of inspiration
Decoy, Prestige = defensive boons from Prismatic Understanding.

With my gear, I have high toughness which makes me tanky. Everytime I get aegis, protection or regeneration, I’m even more tanky. With illusionary membrane, I pretty much double my chances of getting protection from the random boon sources. Coupled with all the stealth, staff 2 leaps and blink skills, my survivability is extremely high.

Now we move over to offensive which is focused on precision and condition damage. Random boons = chance of fury or might. Might = direct increase in damage. Fury = higher chance my clones crit = more bleeds and more Vigor for myself from the dueling trait. More vigor = more dodge rolling = more clones = more shatter = more confusion.

So in a way, it’s because I choose signet of inspiration, that I choose scepter. I could use sword + signet of inspiration but I feel like mirror images would be a better choice given that you’re gonna be “in their face” most of the time with a sword.

In regards to Pain Inverter, never tried it before so I might give that a shot tonight

The reason I use -40% is because this build has no condition removal except for the elite. I dunno about your server but I’d say 20% of the people I fight would be condition specced so it helps a lot for me. If you wanted to go offensive, +40% would help but our conditions dont last that long for it to really make a difference. It doesnt help our clones either so… yup.

I must confess I do not understand why using the Sword locks you into Mirror Images. Personally I see the Staff as my primary weapon and keep to it as much as possible, switching sets only to use The Prestige or some other skill. I don’t see why I’d take a Utility just for a secondary set that I use only for specific (defensive) skills. Plus what’s so special about the Sword that makes Mirror Images so necessary? This isn’t a Mind Wrack build, so a fast point-blank Shatter doesn’t seem as important.

I don’t quite see the benefits of Signet of Inspiration either: as you say this build has a strong focus on boons, which is why I feel Inspiration doesn’t really add much to it. I already have permanent Fury and multiple stacks of Might from Staff Clones, near-permanent Vigour, frequent Aegis, and high uptime on Protection and Regeneration. Illusionary Membrane has a 15s CD, so Inspiration is unlikely to milk more out of it. Overall the infrequent boons provided by Inspiration just seems like a drop in the ocean.

It is true +condition duration doesn’t help our Illusions, and is not that great on Staff conditions either. Confusion however I find benefits greatly from the increased duration, locking down perceptive enemies longer or ensuring the death of spamming enemies. Maybe it’s all in my mind, I don’t know; but I feel that my Confusion is more powerful when I have that extended duration.

I rarely meet condition builds when roaming in my world, so I dunno.

Actually flimp, with regards to the food. The bleeds applied by the staff are rather crazily long, a 7 second base duration. This would benefit massively from the 40% food.

That being said, the -40% food is really strong, especially since your build has 0 condition removal (lyssa runes are worthless, especially for condition removal) so it’s more a matter of choice.

For me I guess I feel it’s locked in because it feels like a waste not to use it in a blurred frenzy combo hahaha. This is because after blurred frenzy, you’re in their face, which means they are either gonna start attacking you immediately or heal themselves from the small “burst” in which case they would take a nice 9 stack confusion to the face and I might even swap traits to persona just because I’m using sword…

Of course you’re not locked into it but the synergy with mind wrack is quite good and I started off playing as a shatter mesmer so it might just be me being silly

Inspiration I feel is great. It feels like I can survive longer with it. Because there are so many “random” sources of boons, adding another one makes the boons a bit more “consistent” you might say. It’s not that great with other builds but it just feels like it works for this build. Maybe it’s just me. Give it a shot and see how it is?

+40% will help no doubt. It’s a great buff and I used it before I found out a -40% existed. I just prefer -40%

What are your thoughts on the new torch update? I’ve been wanting to see what combo’s you’d come up with in your next videos. To me it feels like a huge improvement over what you could previously do, and just wait for the channel to go off. Thanks : )

Well, The Prestige without its channel is actually the original; the channel was a change introduced later. The main thing I guess is it can no longer be interrupted and you can do things like churn out Clones in stealth… overall makes it closer to Decoy, I suppose.

Your play is incredible in the vids. Really enjoyed watching the condition build videos. It looks like so much fun that I had to try it myself in the Mists. A few questions about the condition build:

1) What do you think about using both Veil and Decoy, since the build is stealth-heavy?
2) When do you decide to use Shatters for this build and which Shatter(s) in particular?
3) Do you ever user Prestige as a blast finisher with Chaos Storm? I can’t think of when, if ever to do so, since Chaos Storm’s damage brings you out of stealth.
4) Because I can’t dominate a single player in the way you can an entire zerg, do you think taking away 15 points from Illusions (leaving 5pts for Illusionists Celerity) and putting it into Inspiration (primarily for the HP) would diminish the viability of the build too much? I don’t feel I’m good enough to roam with just 15k HP.

Also, you should stream on Twitch. Would be very entertaining to watch.

@Jedge – The new torch update is great. Perfect for stomping people especially with prismatic understanding since you have a 1/3 chance to get aegis, you blind people around you and you’re also in stealth long enough to finish the stomp. People might say they “nerfed” the torch with the whole blast finisher thing but I rather have only 1 blast than go back to channeling. Also, most of the time I use torch to run away so it’s not often that I combo it.

1. Veil is great but the cooldown is a bit long for me – not sure if it’s worth the investment. Sure you can rotate it in between your other stealths but I feel 90s is too long given that you have other options on a lower cd. Having said that, signet of inspiration is the utility that can be swapped and played around with. Each to their own with this one slot. Decoy + Blink is a must though.

2. Shattering is something that you just do depending on the situation and it’s not something that can be “set” as a rule. In this build, shattering is all about stacking confusion so F1 and F2 is your main shatter. F3 is for stomping or dazing and F4 is for staying alive/stomping. Common situations when I would F1 or F2 shatter are:
- they are standing in the middle of all 3 clones when:
- hey are about to burst me
- hey’ve run around a lot and my clones are too spread out (this makes it easier to find out who the real one is so it’s better to start again)
- I realise they spam their skills so confusion would do more than the natural bleed > I get
- I feel like it!

3. Well since channeling is no longer an issue, you can simply go in stealth, wait 2s, pop chaos storm or any field and done, you have blast finisher. If you time it right, you don’t really lose that much “stealth”. It’s up to you how you’re using the torch at the time, is it to run, to attack or to just drop target.

4. Definitely no! Confusion is a core component of this build, taking those 15 and putting in the inspiration tree would make it even worst. You won’t be able to kill many people.
- You lose longer lasting confusion
- You lose shatters that confuse <— core skill
- You lose the bounce which makes you do half the damage with staff
- You lose 150 condition damage

You have high toughness, HP should not be an issue. I’ll chuck in a few 1 v 1’s in the next video so you can see how I go.

In regards to streaming, I don’t think I’d be good enough to do that. Maybe if there’s a high demand but that’s unlikely :p

I, for one, would certainly watch any sort of live-streaming that you might do. I love watching your videos and seeing many of your exceptional battles. However, as I’m constantly trying to improve as a mesmer, getting to see live, raw footage of you playing would be invaluable.

I know this might seem a stupid question but what sort of stats should i be looking for, for your shatter build?

There’s a couple GW2 streamers I enjoy watching cause of how ridiculously good they are. And finding it incredibly entertaining and enlightening that their class can be played in such a way.
