I decided to do a long kitten video on all people need to know to start off playing mes in tPvP as well as advanced stuff. I’m most certainly not the best mesmer but I do know a lot as I’ve been taught a lot of stuff by Supcutie and Helseth (mostly over whispers but Helseth did jump in and play with me a few times) and have played a lot too!
I would love it if you guys would tell me what you would like explained in the massive guide.
For now I will include all different build variations, discuss all traits, utilities, go into team rotations, your role, peeling, dealing with thieves (how to really deal with them, not like Vashury showed, please don’t fight thieves that way!), class specific matchups, CD management, kiting, port spots, positioning, everything I can think of, but I will for sure miss out on something
Have a wonderful rest of your day guys, much love!

My advice: don’t.

Long videos suck. They’re hard to get through, turn people off, a pain in the rear end to upload, just all sorts of bad. Instead, aim to keep your videos at 10 minutes or below. Starting from that length, pick a limited range of topics to cover in each video. One on matchups, one on builds, one on tips and tricks, etc.

This way you can link specific videos for reference instead of saying ‘oh, it’s somewhere between 12:00 and 20:00. It allows you to do it in pieces to make the project more manageable as well.

Ja, this is the now generation. People live on bite sized pieces of media entertainment. You gotta know your audience.

Anyway if you didnt see it I put this up a little while back
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-How-to-make-a-half-decent-vid/first

You probably have the know how to make a video but in the guide I mention a couple basics on video creation etiquette. Heed them and they should keep you more relevant than not.

I agree – don’t try and fit everything in one video, best to make them short bitesize pieces and link them all in one playlist as a “tpvp series” or something.

As a viewer, 12 to 15 minutes is the sweet spot for me.

I have played mesmer as main for 6 months and have not yet used F1-F4. Please explain them and what they do to enemy. I used F1 first time two days ago with enemy, and was surprised that my clones/phantasms started to run toward the enemy before exploding. So far F1 has been to me a delete-idle-standing-clone button.

Woah, seriously?! :O

Even F3 and F4?

Not trying to be a kitten, but I’m honestly surprised how you managed to play for 6 months without using any shatters at all.

Anyway, so as to make this a constructive post, as standard:
F1 is direct damage
F2 is confusion with a bit of direct damage
F3 is control (daze)
F4 is survival/panic button

1, 2 and 3 will send your illusions running to the target to trigger the effects. 4 will just destroy them where they stand.

How you use them depends entirely on your traits – and there are a lot of varied traits affecting shatters – you can look these up in the trait trees to learn more.

My first video of the series will be out this week for sure. Possibly by Friday. I shall open a separate youtube account for those videos. In the first video I will be discussing the build, all the different options as far as traits go ect and then show what each skill does and when you would use it. It’s gonna be around 10 minutes, possibly a little longer. I will of course describe all shatters in detail (their purposes, what they do ect.) ^^.
I found an old video of me fighting iFave (a very, very, very good thief, former teammate, he has a youtube channel, check him out!) and beating him 1v1 (I also have a dozen or so of loosing), I will showcase it because the burst that came out of me was really, really unexpected. It will probably be in the damage related video(s).
Have a wonderful rest of your day guys, happy gaming!

(from “mesmer is weak” thread) Perhaps you should explain “how to kite and position yourself properly”.

And yes please do explain how to take thiefs. Just returned from EotM where a thief was 98% of the time invisible, making fun with 8 of our players. I also have been in incident in which thief got 6 players. More experienced player raged that thief used simple rotation and that the thief was noob.

What rotation would be as powerful for mesmer noob?

Of course, I will explain that, will do a whole bunch of videos on that one topic (one for each PvP map + 1 to do an intro). I will explain how to take them. The thing is, mesmer isn’t the type of class that has easy rotations ect. You need a lot of experience to be able to play it at a good level. It may seem easy sometimes (afk at range and spam 1) but against a team that isn’t rabbit rank it’s not going to be easy because you will be attacked and expected to survive and at the same time cast your skills. For PvP, you have to learn what every single class has to learn(how to counter x, what to dodge, what not to dodge, what are the weaknesses of x to you, what are your weaknesses to x) + how to kite, kiting spots ect (the kiting spots ect are not something you learn in 1 day. I’ve been learning them for over 1 year and still I’m sure I’ve not found them all.)
I’ve got a bit of an issue atm. I recorded 1 or 2 matches (1 has a few 1v1s against a thief and dd celestial ele where I win) which I’m planning to do a commentary on for a start, to show off proper rotations, the mindset, my mistakes and so on, then I’ll move onto the actual build itself ect next week. But, I recorded the commentary and when I fuse it with the video the videos quality goes from 1080p down to like 240p…. I’ll need to get that figured out.

No worries take your time – would rather see a great video maybe it bit late than see a rushed video now. I’m sure it will be well worth the wait.

I solved it, I’m encoding the video right now, should upload it quick. I won’t make it public just yet though, I still wanna watch through it a few times.
This doesn’t really seem like a guide yet though. I’m gathering footage to start doing the actual guide, I need a lot of it for the next video.

Okay, first video is up. It’s not much of a guide, but you should be able to see with what mentality I’m playing, I have one more game recorded and I can make a video in similar fashion to this one, actual guide will follow.
Sorry that my voice is quiet, I’m a bit sick, I will be louder in the next videos.

I got a lot of feedback in game, I do realize the commentary is sort of boring, I’ve done it many times to make sure that I know what I want to say but there still were a lot of "uhh"s, I’ll do another commentary video on a game in Spirit Watch (the one with thief 1v1) just so I get some practice, improve my commentating ect. I won’t promise that it’ll be out tomorrow, but I will try, it depends on how much I’ll be home alone tomorrow.
Thanks a lot to everyone who gave feedback so far, I’d still appreciate more feedback!

I’m no expert in creating commentary videos nor am I an expert in pvp but your first video wasn’t all that boring as you mentioned it to be.
It would be really awesome if you could cover all the basics such as showing the maps, locations to position yourself on, where to set portals, which nodes to go after while your team is elsewhere, how to know which target to pick first etc. Basically all the stuff a beginner mesmer should learn and know.
Edit: also, tips about dealing with each class’ meta builds? Idk, maybe I’m asking for too much.

Is it OK if I skip the build video and go straight into what each skill does or do you guys still want to see me discussing the build itself?

I suppose you could merge the information in one video – so a summary of the build and then individual skill spotlights?

I dunno, not for me to say, whatever works best for you.

If I do that it will be a long video.. More than 20 min, against what I was guided to do in this thread.. That’s why I’m thinking about avoiding combining the two.
