Not Just A Goodtime – 80 Asura Warrior
[PAXA]
(edited by osif.8673)
Hello Mesmer Community,
This is my first video I’ve ever made, which is pretty obvious by the poor editing and music failures. Other than that, this was taken over about a 3 hour playing time, just wanted to try throwing a little video together. Input/criticism is welcome! I hope you like it!
Solo/duo roaming video:

I usually run with a small group where we have 5 or less each night. Here’s a few clips from running with 2-3 guildies over the past couple nights!
[PAXA] small group play video:

very fun fights with the [KING] group, many props to them!

I liked it.. pretty good footage for 3 hours.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
fun build <3
nice bombing! have you tried to utilize mirror image to bomb even more stuff?
Thanks Grimmson! Yes, I dable with mirror image every now and then but I like the utility of null field more in the majority of situations. Having some (while still pretty dismal) condition removal is nice on top of an added ethereal field to keep chaos armor up helps a ton in outnumbered fights. 1v1s against burst builds, mirror images is pretty sweet to get 15+ stacks of confusion on a target!
may I link your vid in a thread concerning confusion bombing builds?
Yeah, not a problem!
What do you mean a thread conerning confusion? You trying to get a nerf?
lol of course not. imo in wvw it is fine, in spvp it needs a little buff in pve it needs a mojor buff.
thread I’m talking about: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/66011-build-confusion-bomber-tpvp-conditionshatter/
I love confusion bombing videos but can’t make one myself (3fps with fraps…) therefore I’m collecting them in that thread^^
Of course we liked it !
Come back home now, I miss your little asura.
Haha, thanks Nausicca. I’m enjoying fighting you guys though… and the majority of PAXA are poor! lol
Hey what’s up osif,
Didn’t know you were running a confusion mesmer.
Was wondering, I’m also running a confusion engineer in WvW.
I sometime feel the damage is way over the top. Especially with on dodge effect and thing like that.
What’s your take on this?
P.S : Missing you guys, I loved the BP NSP match up. Ebay “roamers” are 15 man group, so it’s nearly a zerg. The game at this tier is zergy as hell, roaming got so much more difficult.
Raise in the ranks NSP!

Hey Kard,
I have mixed feelings about the strength of confusion but…
Short answer to your question; I feel it is a bit too strong.
Longer answer – Confusion is really only accessible by two classes, engies and mesmers. I feel like they utilize confusion in different ways. To clarify, both use confusion as burst damage, but the way it is applied in the styles of play are very different. Engies’ abilities that cause confusion all have a decent/high amount of stacks applied on successful hit, but in turn will eventually wear off before reapplied.
Mesmer confusion, while I still feel it is generally used for burst, can have confusion up on a target/tightly nit group the whole duration of the fight. In comparison to an engineer, a mesmer’s confusion is applied in smaller, but more frequent dosses, and have more abilities that cause confusion.
Mesmers rely on their confusion for their damage, as our conditions are far too random and rather weak to be a reliable source of damage. Vulnerability on staff #1 has kitten me off more than once when it procs three times in a row instead of a burn or bleed. I am also specc’d and geared for having as much sustained condition damage as possible (earth sigils and illusions bleed on crit). If someone wants to just run by and completely ignore me, it’s extremely easy for them to do so, as my illusions can’t catch up to shatter, poor access to swiftness, and blink is on a longer CD than other class’ weapon mobility even when traited.
Engies have pretty decent access to other forms of conditions to keep pressure on a target/group while their confusion is down from being cleansed or wore off.
Where I’m going with this is that if confusion was to be changed in one way or another, mesmers or engies are going to suffer for it. If the damage of confusion is nerfed like it was in sPvP, condition mesmers won’t be viable in the slightest. If they nerf how many stacks of confusion a single person can apply to keep confusion damage lower as a whole, engies are going to be far more hurt by that.
In conclusion to my rant, (sorry!) yes I do believe that confusion as it is right now is no doubt too strong. Damaging some dodge roll abilities, negating heals with enough stacks… it’s just too punishing. But in order to change it, much more than just confusion would have to be reworked. Even if confusion scaled differently (more damage for a single stack but less damage when more stacks are applied) I think that would cause more problems than fix.
Just my 2 cents
Also, I’ll mention that this is purely from a solo/small group WvW perspective. I still think that phantasm mesmers are the kings for running solo, but confusion is just so fun and so good in a group!

I entierely agree with that, maybe except with the fact that engineer are more burst confusion. With 100% condition duration, you can achieve a nearly perma 5 stack of confusion on a single target using only prybar. If you also use bomb kit, you can achieve easy perma 5 stack of confusion.
But yeah, it’s harder to land then mesmer, tho I agree that we usually use it more as a burst.
But about confusion, If it get nerfed, mesmer will be it harder then engineer for sure. Even without confusion, Engi have a lot of condition to make up for it, Burn being just awesome.
And I agree that killing someone who isn’t fighting back with confusion is such a pain. You hit like a wet noodle when they aren’t proccing it.
But if he fights back, it’s going to be a nightmare for him. Especially in team fight, where most of the time you can’t just stop dodging and fighting.
I hope they don’t directly nerf the damage or the stacks. I tried to PvE (I rarely PvE but sometimes for Gear I have too) with confusion and it’s really really bad. PvE would go crazy about it.
It will be really complex to balance. But I personally feel too t’s a bit too strong in WvW (especially with epidemic necro) and too weak in PvP.
Btw, any Asura can put down 6 stacks of confusion for 5s but only every 45 seconds and you have to lose out on 2 utility slots to do it.
Engis only have single-target Prybar (yes Static Shot but it’s 2×3s and Confusion Bomb but I can’t remember the last time I stood on one of those) with 5×5s confusion which only gets interesting and painful because of Magnet. If Prybar got nerfed I think Engi’s would be sad that their fun had ended but I don’t believe folks would think a core mechanic of the Engineer had been pulled.
In your vid you were laying 7 and 8 stacks of confusion on folks. I think limiting the number of stacks that could be active would very much hurt Confusion Mesmers as well and more than Engi’s who don’t build around it. Mesmers are the only class that can mass-confuse but you have to trait for it and it’s really only effective in the zerg. And yeah… traiting for the zerg and then can hurt when zerging. Surprise.
Confusion is too powerful at the higher condition damage levels. I wonder if allowing blocks, heals, and dodges without damage would make it less so. In your vid you nailed that Engi in vale when they swapped kits. Wha? I know it’s probably not a surprise but ANet did not think through the implications of letting confusion kick in for every ability use. I hope they clean up that aspect of confusion first (if their code allows it) and see how it goes before they reach for stronger medicine.

Oh, certainly! I was speaking in generalizations though as a naked class. Not everyone runs that high condi duration! At least, I don’t think haha.
@Lanny
Well bomb are pretty hard to land again mesmer, but again other class that don’t have staff #2, I land it pretty hard. I usually use slick shoe to set it up.
And if you think it hits hard on kit swapping engineer, imagine when the old KR build was there.
Dodge, swap kit, KR proc, 3x confusion proc in 1 sec. It would hurt us really bad.
Your solution would be valid I think, removing blocks/heals and dodges.
@Osif : It’s getting more popular, especially since engineer are getting FotM HGH build and 100nade is death.

Hi Lanny,
Yeah, I sometimes wish I had made my mesmer an ausra. Would be fun to play around with their racials. I personally don’t think A-Net will be making any sort of changes to confusion any time soon just because how much time it would consume for them and it would make many people angry on top of that.
When I’m running solo, I don’t use food at all. the 40% condition duration from pizza is really nice and I can get consistent stacks of 13-15ish confusion sticking on a target for a few seconds. When I’m running solo, if I do get that high of stacks it’s usually only for ~one second. When I run into someone using the -40% condition duration on them and I don’t have any food up, it can make life hell, haha.
Updated with a new video of some group play and a little better editing! -_-
Why don’t you guys come on Anvil Rock?
I have a group of solo roamer running togheter, where we have a lot of fun. But I would love to run with you guys.
Just to wipe GF and Sekz
You need new challenge, come with us!
Buy us all legendaries so Zelrin will stop farming and actually PvP with us then maybe! =P
Bump!
I’m wondering if people like the solo play or group play more to watch and which videos to post/not post and what I can do better video/play wise. Any input is appreciated!

Man roamer need no legendaries!
We don’t even PvE!
I think both play wise and video wise you are fine. I personally like watching both solo and small group play since there’s something to be learned from both. Was interesting to see it from PAXA’s side. (Saw it enough as the target while roaming AR.
Thanks Lanny! I just had the opportunity of fighting Seven Mirror since HoD and SF are fighting each other, he handed me my kitten in a few duels. Was lots of fun, wish I would have remembered to put bandicam on. Maybe he got the footage of destroying me. I kinda want to go back to a phantasm specc to see how that would stack up to him 1v1. I like this one a lot for larger group play though! I’ll post some more videos hopefully in the future!
Hey Miller Time. This guy can melt you down fast if you’re not watching the condition buffs, really strong mesmer, this one. Your combat awareness is strong too, well done sir, and keep the vids coming.
Thanks Seven! Fun fights both the duels and the group fights the night before.
Added another video! Hope you like it!
