So this is like the PU condition builds, except you are using distortion more than stealth. This is mainly for WVW. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can improve the build, and increase the condition pressure, especially with DE getting nerfed. On the defensive side, the only thing bothering me so far is constant conditions. Using torch is helpful, especially when you can refresh the phantasm (and distort again + clearing another conditon) with signet of ether. But I seem to be dying the most with necros.
And if happen to be the inventor of the signet mesmer, call this the Kentigem build. >.<

The lack on mobility is your death in wvw.
Not to jump on the hate train of signets, I do play power signet build in pvp.
I play signet often and problems with the distortion trait is it’s working after you cast your signet. It works perfectly well with Signet of Midnight and short casting signets like Signet of Inspiration and Signet of Domination. Another one : in a Signet build you need to put your points everywhere. You need to invest 10 in domination, 20 dueling and 20 chaos for sure. It leaves you with 20 points to play.
If you don’t plan to shatter, don’t get Signet of Illusion, it’s a long casting signet. You’ll probably want to get blink instead. Or I guess you wanted to use it for longer distortion ? (Distortion -> Signet of Illusion (Distortion) -> Distortion ?)
Mender’s Purity + Cleansing Inscription can give you 3 condi removal, so it can help vs necros.
Hard to imagine that 1 second of distortion here or there is worth giving up PU for, not to mention that you have SO many traits and all your utility slots tied up trying to make the signets worthwhile. Admire the attempt to do something different but it doesn’t strike me as particularly practical.

I understand how you thinking but I see it you will be a sitting duck wating for slaughter without any of the relevant defenses a mesmer need. After your signet defenses is spent you have al your passive used and you survived 4 sec extra, a shatter build can be immune 4 sec with a 3 clone shatter and still keep its utiltys, a PU build can hit a torch stealth and blink away. The condition uptime (givers) weps give less dmg and if enemy clear the condis you lost al the bonus.
Your trade condi dmg and PU for 1 sec dissorsion on signet is to trade your new shiny BMW f 800 GSA for a moped in compare, sure both take you forward…

I play power signets in spvp, as said, and ranked 30 ( 1/20/2014) (Which I’m really proud of! Go Mesmers!)
WvW and sPvP aren’t the same.
The latter requires your opponents to fight which makes many mesmer’s builds really strong.
In WvW, people always run away. I wouldn’t recommend roaming as mesmer to be honest, much more fun as engie and thief.
In WvW, signet mesmer with phantasms is actually very strong. It has been tested, and performs very well! While the lack of blink is hard to adjust to (trust me!!), in the end the use of distortions, as well as signet of midnight gives the mesmer still lots of survivability. Anyone who is curious about it (or facing one of the servers TC is) feel free to let me know. I’ve faced my signet build against PU and shatter mesmers, and so far it seems like it doesn’t perform any worse. Both Shatter and PU/blackwater builds have their own distinct weaknesses, as do every build.
The benefit of using the signets for distortion is that you can CONTROL the distortion much much better. Popping 3 clones for a 4 second immune isn’t useful if you need that immune 10 seconds later. However with signet distortion you can pop them as you need, and their EACH on a shorter cooldown than the shatter (even traited). I can get all 4 seconds of my immune about ~36 seconds.
The signets also each provide great utility. I’ve currently tweaked my build a bit to run S. of Inspiration, S. of Domination, S. of Midnight, S. of the Ether. Inspiration gives me boons, even out of stealth (PU requires you to pop the stealth, burning the escape sometimes just for the buff). Domination gives you a CRUCIAL 3 second stun and Midnight gives you a very powerful blind, especially against melee opponents. All of these as well give you distortion. If traited for Mender’s Purity, than your signet heal on activation gives you:
1. 2 condi’s removed
2. Distortion
3. Repops all your phantasms
4. Heal (of course)
ALL 4 of these are on a 28 second timer.
Match that utility with the use and traits for phantasms, and it turns out you can do a lot! I’ve met many people who have underestimated the 4 signets, and quite a few times they regret doing so (whether they win or lose).
The reliance of MANY mesmers on using PU is really quite astounding, as it will eventually be nerfed. We all know it’s coming eventually. On top of that, while PU is a great trait, it requires you to use the stealth to pop the boons, which becomes fairly predictable. The other build I run though is a stealth/interupt build. However, I’ve found my 4-signet build, and variants, to be very flexible. Don’t knock it til you try it!
In the end, its all trade off. Osicat mentioned that you’re replacing your utilities for passives that other builds can do. But I feel like this is a bit misleading. While yes, your signets are where you have your survivability, your weapons are now the source for your damage, instead of proccing your traits (i.e. torch + PU). Signets also can have a fairly fast timer on them to repop, with only needed to invest 10 in your traits. So, for 30 traits you can get PU and be forced to use your illusions purely for survival and a weapon for proccing the trait, or use the signets and get the distortion, PLUS offensive capabilities. The stun and the blind are OFFENSIVE. A mesmer should not be rely on 1 or 2 skills just to survive. Shatter and PU builds are both great, but they also have inherit weaknesses that it seems people just don’t like to talk about and shove under the rug. The 4-signet build I made, and have been talking about, is made for a good alternative to doing those. It has been tested by several others who have sang good praise for it, and many of those I’ve faced are surprised in the end, even other mesmers! I’d urge all of you, even Osicat and your shattering awesomeness to try it out! Especially since signets most likely won’t get nerfed anytime soon.

As for sPvP I can buy you get it to work, the goals is different (imo rather uninteresting) and based around stay in the circle and survive, stealth it contra productive in this area of the game and in some ways 1200 yard blink aswell. I simply mean “go try the build” as sPvP is a good and cheep place to test builds. In more competition focused sPvP/pvp I don’t want to judge any build as it’s not my area and I actually don’t care about this part of the game.
For roaming thus I feel more secure and feel I have better possibilities to give a opinion that matters.
Here is why I feel the build lack something, I fully trust as some here say that the build in right hands are capable to kill most ppl you face in open wvwvw, tbh most good players like the one in this thread can in most builds destroy a majority of the ppl in wvwvw in a 1 vs 1 situation and some good players even can handle 2 vs 1 to a extent.
Problem I see thus with the build in roaming is that no matter who good you are, no matter how defensive your signet immunitys etc is no matter how good your gear is you will end up in fights you can’t win as a roamer. You fight 1 player and suddenly 3 hammer warriors and a thief join and want to play " Mesmer ball".
In this situation capable roaming builds have a gtfo setup.
Warriors turn into Usain Bolt and swoooooshhhhh away.
Else do bzbzbbzbzbzbzbbzbzbbzbzbzb then conjure a GS and swoooch away.
Thiefs go “poff” and you never see them again.
Necrosis go emo, die and curse the devs
Mesmers stealth + blink etc.
The build lack a good GTFO tool imo.
As always this is my opinions and I trust most ppl disagree, that’s totally ok as I can only speak of what I think not what others should think.
