When you have three phantasms up and you’re wanding it creats a clone and destroys your phantasms… Wand is bad as is and with this stupidity i don’t know why a mes is even allowed to wield it. Would’ve been better if we could dual wield pistols! Make wand autos not overwrting phantasms so it keeps on sucking (compared to pretty much any other main hand) but a little less.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

Maybe because there’s a 10sec cooldown before swapping? In thos 10sec you have enough time to destroy a phantasm, replace by a clone and overwrite that clone by another one… Wand’s skill 1 should only spawn clones when there’s >2 illusions up or at least overwrite clones only.

In PvE, you’d generally prefer a phantasm to the clone, based on dps. I’ve really never done sPvP, but I assume that there are advantages to a clone over a phantasm due to your enemy not being sure which one is the real mesmer. So it’s not always true that a phantasm is strictly “better”. Clones are meant to “tank” mobs as well with the cripple.

I suppose if you really wanted to play with the PvE threat mechanics, you could slightly boost the threat caused be clones to make it play more like PvP…but there are probably much bigger things to worry about.

Just do what other people do and don’t use the scepter. The ability to overwrite a phantom with a clone on demand is actually pretty handy on the sword, staff, and gs.

Scepters are so bad. I’ve given it a try recently and I really can’t see why Anet has left it so weak. Give it’s #1 confusion like it says in the description!
Clones shouldn’t replace phantasms. If you have 2 clones and 1 phantasm then spawning another clone or phantasm will delete the oldest clone. 2 Phantasms and 1 clone, clones should delete the clone. With 3 Phantasms however I do believe it’ll overwrite the oldest Phantasm. Scepter should be no different. I can’t test if scepter #1 overwrites phantasms but it shouldn’t. Anet screwed up if it does.

Why?
The Scepter is clearly a clone-spam weapon. It also provides no Phantasm, in other words there is no reason you’d want to use it in a Phantasm-build compared to the much more useful (due to Blurred Frenzy) sword.

it only overrides phantasms if you already have 3 phantasms up. working as intended.

and yes, if you want to keep the 3 phantasms up, stop attacking for 10 seconds then switch weapons. how hard is that.

Already limited to only 8 weapons and some are actually okay about ignoring a certain weapon because of X reason… sad if you ask me. Slow attack speed (staff is also slow but at least it has conditions worth a kitten , skill 2 is useless, skill three takes 5 years to cast and a century to recharge, autos overwrite phantasms, 900 range all this on a 1 handed weapon that only has 3 skills… Why skill 1 doesn’t apply some kind of condition? Its a mes weapon, come’on… If skill one wasn’t overwriting phantasms and also applied confusion (they can decrease its attack speed to staff level for this to not be OP) and even keeping the other two skills as usess as they are, scepter could be half decent for pvp or pve.

Meh cancel/stop attacking for 10 sec is the kind of things we shouldn’t be thinking about while doing a dungeon and such.

Gah this has been beat up again and again in these forums (yes the search feature does work!).

If you don’t want your phantasms overwritten, then only make TWO when using the scepter. The scepter attack three makes a clone and it needs a place to go in the world. If one of your three current illusions is a clone, the clone will ALWAYS get replaced. This actually works well for a “on clone death…” build since you know which clone will die.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

Greatsword 2 overwrites my phantasms and creates a clone.
It really sucks because that particular move is pretty good for damage and might stacks.

Adding this kind of clone vs phantasm juggling makes the class more complicated than it already is or needs to be.

If you are going legion with 3 phantasms then you have to deal with it. It’s part of the skill-floor of the profession.

If you roll with no more than 2 phantasms at a time then it’s a non-event.

I generally shatter phantasms after their first attack chain because the second attack chain is too far away (i.e. the mob or the phantasm will die before they get to attack a 2nd time),

If you’re going to use the scepter learn how to play with it dude. I like scepter how it is, its great for on clone death effects as well as stacking confusion.

You should not be getting in the position where you feel ignoring the shatter skills and summoning skills that make up a huge part of the class is actually advantageous.

Has nothing to do with anger or not knowing how to use a scepter lolz it has three skills on it, very hard to master! I want every weapon to be balanced and right now there’s ZERO reason to use a scepter over any other main hand weapons for condtion build OR not.

To the other portion? Scepter is very useful.

You should not be getting in the position where you feel ignoring the shatter skills and summoning skills that make up a huge part of the class is actually advantageous.

This is true if shatter were better for dps compared to having 3 illusions out then this problem would disappear, would be nice if they looked at improving shatter damage and delivery so when you do shatter your clone aren’t kill by a random aoe that drops in front before they reach the target.

17 stack confusion vs a warrior for example with his doing 5k: 5k+ 6k+ and 7k+ in under 2 seconds.

Again though, each to their own, the videos more to illustrate that there is potential over the ZERO reason (for some)
