Hrm, baseline is difficult to say. I wouldn’t want to bolt everything and the kitchen sink onto the base class, rather I’d just increase base potential, that is, things hit harder, have more health, are more adept at imitating the real mesmer, etc, and then reduce trait power.

Yes, this effectively would wash out some of the spec differences, but for a much more diverse class as non-traited effects wouldn’t be as weak as they are.

A primary example here is shatter in phantasm builds. Base shatter power should be strong enough so that there’s always reason to shatter, if the situation is right. And those situations should exist often enough. Even in a Phantasm build.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Imo we are still starving for illusions. The game is heading towards more shattering, yet we still have de in a trait line. In order to increase build diversity and use our class mechanic de should become baseline.

Imo we are still starving for illusions. The game is heading towards more shattering, yet we still have de in a trait line. In order to increase build diversity and use our class mechanic de should become baseline.

I think DE should be kept where it is but other things should be added that are accessible for all players so they don’t feel forced into what it looks like either Duelling or Chronomancer to have enough illusions to shatter.

For example:
- chance to summon a clone when you are hit
- interrupting an enemy summons a clone
- chance to summon a clone when you hit or crit an enemy
- summon an illusion when using some utility skill (ie signet of illusions)
- blocking an attack summons a clone (any block inlcuding aegis, stacks with icounter and iriposte)
- etc…

Some of these could be as traits distributed through the different lines – get rid of some of the major traits which still look meaningless compared to the alternatives – eg illusionary defence/compounding power, fall damage (which should be integrated into the mastery system for both pve and wvw masteries), desperate decoy, several of the inspiration traits, and so on.

Some could be added on skills – for example Ether Feast could have an illusion generation component, signet of illusions could generate a phantasm based on your current weapon set,

The most important thing is that these should all remain optional choices, just like DE, Illusionary Reversion and Chronophantasma will be, so for those pve players who don’t want clones they can avoid them.

If Imbued Diversion was baseline, what would they do for F3 in Master of Fragmentation?

I like the idea, I’m just struggling to think of a substitute in that trait.

What is Mur? Also nothing should be added to baseline. We got twice as many as the other classes. And nothing else makes sense as a baseline.

Imbued diversion and maybe that phantasm health trait get my vote in addition to what is already being made baseline. I thought about maybe phantasmal haste but I’m not sure.

What I do think needs doing is a second pass at the way Mesmer damage is distributed, what weapons are being used, how and for what sort of builds. I think they need to really polish up the skills so they actually do what they say more often and for what they say they do to actually work.

For example the summon on block stuff, usually a hefty aftercast and it feels clunky. Sword 2 is a nice idea but since illusions die so fast it doesn’t work in practice.

I just feel that there’s so much potential in Mesmer but it’s being let down by bad AI, poor implementation and terrible scaling when numbers or content gets harder.

I’d like secs to do lvl 50 fractals as mesmer, the new living story and realise just how pet unfriendly it all is.

They shouldn’t make any more traits baseline for mesmer. We already got enough.

I disagree with this with the specific example of Imbued Diversion. It is not a matter of “getting enough” or how many traits become baseline or merged, it is a matter of what should be and what shouldn’t. Baseline isn’t about buffing us. Giving us IP baseline is an admittance that mesmer was too weak without it. Thus, it feels more like a balance fix than a buff, which is fine.

Imbued Diversion in particular was always an odd trait out, a weak GM that made most anyone who saw it think “Wait, this isn’t how it worked before?”, as in it seemed so common sense that Diversion should indeed be multi-target that it is shocking we needed to trait for such a thing.

Therefore, I believe ID should be baseline. Not to buff us, but just to balance mesmer that much more to the level of common sensibility of how we should work. There should be no limit to how much you can give or take to balance.

All our shatter effects are AoE (even Distortion with MtD inflicts torment in aoe fashion)… except Diversion unless you trait for it. Shocking I know.

Thats why ID should be baseline, and for the same reason Mantra of Distraction is only 180 radius instead of 240r like Mantra of Pain. ID baseline would be 180r splash effect. Master of Fragmentation would up this radius to 240.

Make that entire trait baseline then !!! Mabye reduce the power of something else popular to compensate but it would make for a much more interesting mesmer gameplay, but that might be too many buffs…

Manip cd reduction trait should be baseline.

More than that, the mantra cd reduction trait should be baseline. Mantras are such a pain to charge in combat anyways I don’t see why there should be anything like a 30 sec cd, it should be 10 max.

Did they remove mantra reduction completely? I can’t find it.
