Guild Wars 2

My friend is leveling a Mesmer and I just recently got my Ranger to 80 so I want to make a new character to level with him. What is a good class that complements the Mesmer and why? Thanks in advance

Thief of course is great.

Thief is fun. You can do a lot of stealth to skip stuff. Guardian and Elementalist are also worth recommending. They can offer some healing and condi cleanse for some story stuff, dynamic group events and the like.

If you want lots of variety in the group mechanic I’d say Engi or Thief! But yes go with what you’re curious about most, you will probably end up having more fun

Clearly a lot of differing opinions! GWs is cool like that, haha

But my opinion: when I play power shatter, I love running with a burst guard. You can insta-gib a player at the start of a fight, and then follow up with AoEs and invlun/stealth/stab stomping/whatever. It’s really quite potent.

If I’m playing a less aggressive style like phantasm, I need someone who’s hard to target, so the phants have time to work. Therefore, a thief is a great choice that really synergizes well with a more attrition-based style.

Honorable mention is ele because ele!

Lastly: I definitely do not recommend a necro (or, for that matter, any build that’s easily focusable), unless you’re running power shatter.
