What controls starting phantasm position?

Just did some quick tests with iDuelist, seemed like it would spawn randomly around my position at the end of the channel with a direct LoS on the target. If I was standing on a location that did not have a path to walk to the target, it would spawn right on my position.
Also: if the channel ended in the air, the phantasm ends up flying.

iDuelist is actually the only useful phantasm for air summoning. It’s useful when jumping off of tower walls to drop on something like a staff ele. All other ones just bug out and do nothing when summoned in the air.

So phantasms have a general summoning point, and then it’s randomized around that location. Zerker and warden, for example, are centered on the target, while the duelist and warlock are centered on the Mesmer.
Thanks for the answers. I guess the only way to manipulate this is by line of site or pathing. I will have to try out the air summoning of iDuelist sometime
