What in mesmers is OP?
Phantasms are the secret ingredient in the Ragu sauce of Mesmers.
My bunker spec mesmer eats bunker Guardians for lunch. A slow, slow lunch, but a lunch nonetheless. The part that’s really striking is I will end the fight with near full health still.

As an engineer I find 1v1 in tPvP against Mesmers to be incredibly difficult. It has nothing to do with identifying the mesmer. Look for the correct avatar or cues that give them away (e.g. dodging). The difficulties are:
* Attack the mesmer, get destroyed by the images
* Attack the images, get destroyed by the mesmer
Mesmer is the ultimate dueling profession. Luckily this game isn’t about 1v1, so it’s not that big of a deal. As a multi-kit point-defense engineer I can outlast a mesmer forever, but I’ll probably never kill them until support arrives. As a power build I can kill them if I get lucky, but I usually end up barely alive.

I fought an engi 1v1 in WvW and the battle lasted forever. It went on so long that another WvW team found us and obliterated the battle.
Not really related to the OP’s topic, but was a fun moment for me in WvW lol.

Fought a few mesmers with this build as a guaridan, it was simply unbeatable no matter how well I played.
I dont even care about MOA, I stopped using it. Longish cast time and you have to stand completely still. Almost a death sentence in most PVP situations.
Playing as a Mesmer myself, as well as other professions such as thief, engineer and necromancer, so here’s my opinion:
I will straight up say that I do not care if Moa morph gets nerfed, it feels gimmicky and I don’t use it anyways. Aside from that I would make minor nerfs AND buffs to the profession.
Buffs +
+Torch needs it’s skills reworked so they are stronger.
+ Scepter #1 skill could use a damage buff
+ Blink could use a buff to fix it’s inability to traverse small gaps/different elevations.
+ Clones should wear an offhand
+Slightly buff the F2 and F3 shatters.
Nerfs -
-Shorten the duration of Moa to 5 seconds, but slightly reduce the cooldown timer.
-Slightly nerf the HP of Phantasms(in PvP only, I do not like this fix for PvE)
-Slightly nerf the damage of Mindwrack(in PvP only, I do not like this fix for PvE)
-Slightly nerf the damage of iDuelist(but fix AI)
Mesmer main here. I have to agree that Moa is really strong and needs to be toned down.
Strangely it has not been on my bar for weeks due to its lack of versatility in comparison to our other elites.
These two statements seem to conflict, but perhaps that is why Moa is still so powerful. Many of us do not use it (so it slides low on the matrix tracking), but those who design around single target kills can really shine with this ability.
I prefer utility and versitility and therefore will rarely use it outside of an hour or two on occasion when I force myself to swap abilities so I do not fall completely into a predictable rut of skills.

Buffs retort:
+I love the torch…aoe combo finisher is amazing when many players do not seem to grasp the combo field jive
+Agreed
+ehh…wouldn’t complain but not high on my list
+Agreed

Nerfs retort:
+sounds fair
+dunno…world of aoe and all
+no opinnion
+agreed
I dont agree that MOA is strong. I think it sucks as a skill. It seems OP when it lands on you, but its not even a guaranteed kill. It basically shuts down your skills for 10 seconds. And it is on a long timer, and its hard to land it on the person you want to. it tends to get me killed really.
Id rather drop the mesmer haste thing. Much more useful imo. They could remove MOA for all I care.
yeah I really feel like their CDs should be more balanced the way they strip and stack boons let alone their ability to escape in fights and while downed is better than any other class
please look into this a net
playing one in spvp I have been able to do major damage

Not even true mesmers dont have the best escape from downed. Thieves get the same thing and then they can escape again. They get two escapes from downed. Mesmers get one same as most of the classes. If you cant see the mesmer I don’t know what to say? I mean you just dont understand it.
Mesmer is downed, he just teleports a few feet away…is that really so hard? I kill memsers all day long. Down them do the finish move wait for them to teleport, look around there are like 5 feet away. Go and finish them.
I don’t know if mesmers are OP, but we are indeed really strong in PvP.
Here is why, imo :
- hard to catch : blink and various stealth skills, and you can add clones.
- hard to disable : control a mesmer and its phantasms will still deal damage.
- good control abilities : lots of dazing, crippling, stunning, knockback skills
- best downed skillset : disappear, leave a clone where people think you reappear, and deal 7k to your opponent once he’s tried to finish you twice.
Combine all of that with really decent damage, and you get a really strong class.

I have played every class but the Guardian and warrior. My main is an engineer that I have become very good with. I have been spending the last few days testing the mesmer out and getting to know it’s abilities so I can counter it better on my main classes.
Out of all the classes I have played so far, mesmer is by far the best for 1v1 situations. On other classes, I always have one or two classes that usually turns out to be a really long fight. For all of the other classes, mesmer is on the list of very long and hard fights.
When playing on the mesmer however, the only real class that I would like to avoid fighting 1v1 is another mesmer. I have played the mesmer for a fraction of the time of other classes but don’t really have issues with other classes unless I run into a skilled person that has spent a lot of hours on the character and knows what they are doing. Even then, I usually come on top or barely escape with my life by running.
Mesmer is not a very hard class to be decent at. It is a class that is hard to be very good at. What class isn’t though?
Mesmer just seems like it requires a lot less effort to do well in pvp. In my opinion mesmer is the most op class in pvp right now. You should know something is wrong when every class has the same weakness. That weakness is the mesmer.
The biggest thing ive noticed is all of their damage avoidance. I’ve seen and heard of them holding their own in a 1 v 4 fight and either get away alive or take out 2 or 3 of the 4. All of their tricks to relocate, or clones or false images.
I haven’t played one to a great extent, so i don’t know on what timers all this crap is on, but i know ive been cheated out of many kills due to their ability’s, but i also happen to think their mirror images hit entirely too hard.
This, however, is just my opinion based on my observations. As i do not have the foresight of having played one, i cannot give a conclusive answer. Only that, from the outside, they are too hard to kill for a caster class.
The mesmers, much like rogues from WoW, are just clearly moral breakers. When a thief in their dagger spin elite kill themselves inside a feedback bubble, that’s not a feeling of “Oh well, I lost because they were better.” That’s a feeling of “!@#$% SO CHEAP.” When you waste a ton of CDs and burst damage on a clone, it’s not a feeling of “Oh. I missed.” It’s a feeling of “WHAT THE $%^&” And it will continue tokitten people off as long as our moves are doing what they’re supposed to do. And more than deceive, apply conditions, or even do damage, our moves are annoying as hell.
