So, the offhand weapon bug was fixed, but my understanding is that certain UI options will still label players without labeling clones, making it trivial to tell which is which in PvP.

What I’m wondering is, if this is fixed, are there any other issues that make it trivial to tell which Mesmer is real? Assume that the Mesmer player perfectly imitates the attack and movement patterns of a clone, so issues like “clones don’t dodge” shouldn’t count.

It is not possible to perfectly imitate the attack patterns of clones and actually fight. The only way to imitate the attack pattern is to stand perfectly still and use only auto attacks. Unfortunately, this doesn’t generate clones or phantasms or stunbreaks or anything.

So, while you could in theory perfectly imitate a clone’s attack patterns and movement patterns, you will be completely and totally useless, unable to fight or do anything really.

Just a question to add onto this. If you have a legendary on your mesmer that has a footstep effect, will the clones get it as well? otherwise you’d be given away oh so easily in wvw.

ahhh thats cool. I can only imagine seeing a sunrise/twilight mesmer shattering 3 clones and leaving a swamp of paint footprints!

I’m going for meteorlogicus, and thatll be very nice with the lightning footsteps.

Clones faking out players is that neat idea a lot of us had going in, but it’s not going to ever be a realistic feature of the profession, nor do I believe it was designed to do so.

I see complaints about things like clones not having food buffs, and so they’re given away by targeting them. I think that’s giving our opponents way too much credit. In truth, if a player is paying even a fraction of that much attention to you, no amount of shuffling and UI obfuscation is going to pass off a simplistic AI as a player. Seen through anything more than the corner of one’s eye immediately gives them away through behavior alone.

Clones are NPCs, players are… PCs, that already makes it inpossible to imitate a clone and be effective :P.

Also, being “given away oh so easily” is the point of leendaries in g oppinion ^__^.
I cant wait to see howthey update bolt :O sword is the one weapon i have equipped 95% of the time… Reason why i dont bother getting bolt is because it replaces our beautifull fuschia trail we already have when we swing a sword. If a new legendary left the trail intact, or mixed the new and old i would definitely get it ^__^.
