What race for mesmer
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
I don’t like Sylvari so i would go with humans, however i’ve only norn characters
Why be a human when you can be awesome instead?
Charr is clearly the way to go.
due to the racial skills, i always think Asura is the best race for mesmer….
if skill does not matter, any big race will do…. norn or charr…
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Asura / Charr / Norn have weird/wooden attack animations on the GS. Humans are bland in comparison to the other Races. SYLVARI ALL THE WAY!!!
I’ll just quote myself from another thread, cuz lazy.
The choice is obvious.
Currently on mobile, so I’ll just link some random pictures on the internet:

Not my best pictures, but it’s all i could find :Pcharacter portrait sketch

Asura have a slight advantage being so tiny, noobs will have an even harder time targeting the real you. On the other hand big norn illusions will be bigger and better distractions for noobs.
Vs skilled players race doesn’t matter though, at all :p I do prefer to spvp on asura toons for what it’s worth, every little counts there.
Why do people think that asura don’t make the best mesmer? They get a 2s utility skill daze should you want to play a daze heavy build.
Sylvari have “Take root” which gives your opponent 9 Targets to sort out.
You could make the biggest possible Charr, people with rly small screens won´t see anything if you spam 3 clones close to them. It was absolutly horrible to fight such a guy on a 17 inch screen… :P
For aesthetic reasons I would chose Sylvari, although you usually need a lot of transmutation stones for proper plant-like armor and weapons.

Hold on to your gems! The new wardrobe system will make you regret buying transmutation stone.

OMG this is really great!
I have neither stones nor gems, so no regret here

B..B..But i have 100 transmutation crystals….
Except transmutation crystals and stones will be converted to charges :P
I was hoping the wardrobe would be something fun and easy to use, but its just a massive gold sink that you can only use a few times :’(

You still need them… You will have transmutation charges, the 80 stones will be converted 1:1 and the 1-79 ones 3:1. There is still NO FREE TRANSMUTATING!

You would think it’d be the other way around, since the transmutation stones are easy to get, dont cost gems, and you get more at a time. You’d think anet would want to reward players more for buying gem store items, that it’s more worth it buying from the gem store.
Anyway i’m a human mesmer.
- all armor skins are made for humans first and the other races are an afterthought
- Humans have the only skill that can really compete with timewarp for usefulness in a fight, hounds of balthazar
You know 3:1 means that you need 3 of them for 1 charge …

The idea is amazing in concept and I’m drooling at the possibilities. Unfortunately we don’t know how much transmutation charges will be yet (unless I missed it). Hopefully not too costly – should find out in one of the next couple ready up episodes.
Humans are the only race that can properly portray the Noble upbringing required of a Mesmer.
Sylvari come close with the voice though.
Make WvW Eventful! – WvW, 4 years in
Yes, I have 5 lv 80 mesmers – Funny Puns
My mesmer is human because my GW1 mesmer was human. I was very tempted by Asura though, everything about them is awesome, especially the voice acting.
Ok i posted this in the players helping players guide but no one notice i want to re-roll my mesmer because i dont like my asura for aesthetic reasons so i was wondering which race to make Human or Slyvari?
Sorry, but we can not tell you, which one you’ll like better
My mesmer is a sylvari and I love the elite skill this race choice provides.
Generally said, choose it depending on the aesthetic, and not the race specifiy utility skills, because most of the time you’ll not use them anyway.
I suggest to just create one from both races once, switch to the mists for pvp, and just threw your skills at the training dummy, and then choose which one you like better.

It’s actually no different than it is now. Still need transmutation stones/crystals/charges. And I’m not sure where you’re getting that you can only use it a few times.
The transmute change is simply to streamline its synergy with the wardrobe system.
The wardrobe is not a gold sink, but rather an opportunity to get that look you want for less gold than before. If you bought a sweet piece of armor and want it for another character, you don’t have to buy a duplicate and xmute it like you do now. You’ll have it unlocked and just need the xmute charge, no additional gear purchase required.
As for race…go Sylvari. They look the coolest with all the purple glowiness.

Excuse me my mesmer is a commoner and she will fight you.
I have an Asura and somewhat regret it. Asura doesn’t really seem mesmerish. I’d say either go for Charr or Sylvari. Both are awesome. Asura and Charr have A LOT of clipping going on which is Annoying to me, but Charr still could pass as the clipping is only with the tail, and that can be avoided if you play around with armor a bit to see what doesn’t clip while on Asura everything clips. Armors, staves, greatswords, you name it! Sylvari seems like a great mesmer class. I have one named Shattered Melodies. Fits perfect with the name, I have ~150g and 150h into my Asura so I do not want to get rid of it.. I do def. wish I made a Sylvari though.

Extremly sure they are the same as they are now (80s) since they destroy their own CS in some ways by giving us the ability just to have to buy things once. I think that is also a fair price.

She probably has wooden puppets instead of illusions.

Nobles always have to think they’re better than everyone.
I could use a wooden puppet and it’d be better than anything you could do.

I have about 3 gold, and I refuse to do grinding-trains for hours just to get some money. In The little free time I spend on gw2 nowadays, I’d rathrr have fun and de-stress after a busy day, instead of grinding money till I get bored to tears. I can buy… 0 transmutations with 3 gold.
A gold sink is something that removes gold from the economy, such as the gem store. You buy transmutations from the gem store, and therefore, the wardrobe is a gold sink. In my oppinion its a massive gold sink, atleast compared to buying stuff from vendors. At best I’ll be able to transmute 1 gear set if I start saving now with 1 dungeon per day, before I’m completely broke :D
I hope thry give us 1 transmutation for doing a daily… Atleast it would be something fun that makes it worth it to log in every day :P. Atleast for me, I don’t really care about getting a few achievement points.

I also prefer Charr, mainly because of their Elite Skill Warband Support, it suits my playstyle with illusions the most, as my Charr friends do the same job like they are supposed to: keeping the mobs away from me. In party I swap it for another one, but in solo pve it’s great.

A) you can earn 3 transmutation stones for each map completed. That’s not grinding, that’s playing the game. You can clear Rata Sum in a few mins.
B) I think you’re confused about the wardrobe system. If anything, it’s making transmutation cheaper, not more expensive. Currently, you still need transmutation stones/crystals to make these changes, as well as 2 pieces of gear (one for looks, one for stats), one of which will be destroyed. The new system will let you make the same transmutation but without destroying (or needing to procure) a 2nd piece of gear, for the exact same transmutation fee.

A) 3 transmutation stones equals 1 transmutation charge… So 6 maps completed to transmute a whole set :o
B) just because its cheaper than the thing we had before, doesn’t mean it’s not a gold sink. In fact, you’re sinking the exact same amount of gold with both ways: 1 transmutation crystal.
Sure, having 2 gear pieces instead of 1 is more ezpensive, but buying gear isn’t a gold sink.
