Well, this really depends on the situation, PvE, PvP, WvW, whether you’re talking zerg fights, 1v1s, burst damage sustained damage….
You’ve got to give us a bit more to work with.
Casual, solo, PvE
Preferably sustained damage

Colesy answered your question then. Sword/sword and sword/pistol would be your highest single-target DPS weaponsets. Greatsword and sword/focus give good DPS (including AOE) and a whole lot of utility. If you’re looking to maximize your damage you’ll have to switch between them depending on the encounter.
