Where's our speed boost?
Yeah I’m kind of surprised they STILL didn’t fix it so that our curtain actuall stacks with other swiftness boons.
Also surprises me that a lot of mesmers just spam that in the middle of the zerg, it’s pointless.
Having our sword #3 skill actually leap us without a target woulda been useful too but wishful thinking I guess. Can’t summon illusions without target.
Why compare guardians to mesmers? That’s like comparing apples to pears.

Hmmm… I think it’s more like comparing snails to snails.

i agree mesmers are the slowest class in the game.. unless we use focus (which is very conditional) we have no movement speed boosts at all outside of pure luck (signet of inspiration and chaos storm) both rely on luck.. i think out of combat signet of insp should always give movespeed (why would you need anything else outside of combat) and chaos storm should do the same outside of combat.
Get centaur runes, get a tonic, get blink and/or get staff and you can outrun almost anyone. Let alone having stealths.

just get traveler runes problem solved best runes for mesmer whatever build ya running cind a must have
My only question is; what makes mesmers so special? Not to be rude, but… I mean, necro mobility isn’t that great neither unless you give up a utility slot for a speed signet, but in the long run, it still doesn’t add up to Perma-Swiftness, teleports, leaps etc. I’m not saying Mesmer doesn’t have it bad, but at least you’re not alone. Necros also have no escape power. x.X

you said it yourself right there.. necros have an OPTION for swiftness/speed… mesmers do not have such an option and in WvW were always the last in the group because we cant keep up with everyone else.

Centaur Runes with Mantra of Healing.

If you want a nonviable/fun/nonoptimal OPTION, yeah, just go with Centaur runes and mantra heal, then you have a better OPTION than necromancers. x.X And you can escape fights and blink/referse Staff 2 for distance.

Even if it were 1 second (doubtful) that’s what, 7% of my play time opening and closing windows to equip gear?
I’d rather go clean the garage.
So… I seem to be addicted to Centaur runes and MoR. ;P I could go Traveller and yes, it would be quite lovely to not have to worry about it, but there’s a few things stopping me.
- Centaur doesn’t just grant me swiftness, it grants folks around me swiftness. 3 clicks of it before a short cooldown and you can charge mantras on the run. Not only am I rarely left behind, but I help stragglers alongside me.
- MoR takes several delayed clicks to get the most out of it, which trains you to use it often, combined with added swiftness with every click.
- talent makes MoR cure conditions, so… lets say someone snares me. If I have it charged, I get a heal, a condi removal and swiftness all in one click. The charge time can be annoying, but its a small price to pay for 3 swiftness/condi removals and two heals with a short CD.
- some JPs its nice to have slower running speed and sprint just when you need it. /shrug. Personal preference.
For the price, Centaur is pretty awesome and I absolutely recommend it with MoR for any Mes. I’ll move to Traveler at some point, because 25% all of the time can be better than a 33% afterburner that takes several clicks. I’d also be more open to it if I didn’t have plans for that 60 extra G expense.
oh and I’ve not been able to use focus for swiftness most of the time. Its like I use 4 underneath me and it doesn’t register for some reason. I prefer my current setup and keep focus 4 open for reflects, etc.
They had to SPAWN MORE OVERFLOWS!
I hate having to cast heal to get speed, I always feel someone will get me right as I waste it.
So I opted to passive +25% speed with this:

Eventually ill get runes of traveler, but for now these will do.

Spectral Walk, 50% uptime of swiftness.
You’re also forgetting that temporal curtain will hit your ENTIRE zerg. Symbol of swiftness only hits 5 people. That said, I agree that stacking swiftness with curtain is a problem.

Conclusion anet cannot apply (only to TC) a 5-player limit per line and a pulse effect to a “line/wall skill”. Because they all have to have the same basic mechanic.
Or they dont want to.

When you’re in combat, and getting focussed, try getting your weapon back.
Besides, even if you are just trying to get somewhere and there is no threat of combat (completely unrealistic in pve/wvw) there are times when you’re without a speed buff.
Stupid focus speed buff won’t even stack with itself…lame.

^This.
Meh, my only issue with mesmer speed is from 1-79. They should make consumables that give a minor speed boost like 15% or something. Similar to those Zhpehere things.
I would love to have a signet like this:
Signet of Speed:
Passive: Grants 25% increase in movement speed.
Active: Teleports you in the direction you are moving. When standing still, you teleport backwards. Also breaks Stun.
35 sec CD. Range 900.

Yeah I know, it sucks but it’s better than running with weirdo runes like Traveler, especially if you get a lot of power from your runes like PU/condi and Perplexity runes.
In combat mobility isn’t a problem for me since I use a staff. Phase retreat always moves you away from your target, so you can move very fast as long as you target someone chasing you, without needing Swiftness. Not everyone can do this though since Staff use is rare outside of PU/condi builds.

A few times this week I have encountered bunker mes roamers who are simply unkillable. They run around people, blink and stealth and make clones continuously, and when low on heath, simply stealth and run away. Although slow, mesmers already have a huge amount of misdirection and givng them easy access to speed is an overkill.
And to the op, guardians were both slow and lacked access to stealth, one of them had to change.
We’re not “special”, but the original design goal for Swiftness/runspeed fell apart with the Signet changes.
Before that change, it was actually pretty balanced. That is to say, imbalanced, but it was an imbalance which could be included in the overall design (Thieves had the only +25% signet, some had perma-swiftness uptime).
Now, 4 classes have +25% signets, one can trait for perma-swiftness assuming they use kits, one can trait for +25% if using melee weapons, two need to equip a specific weapon for group swiftness, one limited to 5 targets (Guardians), one unbound but non-refreshing.
It’s all over the place now. Especially because the +25% runes basically made all other forms of swiftness/runspeed useless, since a utility slots is ~always better than a runeset.
It doesn’t have to be a signet….if they made the focus speed boost stackable, I think I will be happy.
Why not make the Signet of Inspiration give you always or 50% swiftness while NOT in combat and no swiftness while in combat?
Runes of the traveller – i use on 4 of my toons. Awesome stuff.
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)

This works too – or at least traited to allow perma swiftness outside of combat.

True, I’d be happy with that, too. After all Guardians have to swap weapons for Swiftness, too, Engineers have to swap kits, and Engineers and Warriors need to allocate trait points.
