Where should we Mesmers focus on?
It really depends on how you feel like playing. Personally, I like to spec towards my phantasms/ condition damage in PvE, so I use a Staff with plenty of Power and Condition Damage traits. I also have a Greatsword as my 2nd weapon, mostly just to get Illusionary Berserker out and use the push-back skill if the mobs get too close.
I’ve also had lots of fun (especially in sPvP) with using Sword/Pistol, and putting more traits into the traits that directly incrase Phantasm damage, give them bleeds on crits, etc.
I’ve also recently seen Prometheus0110s videos on reddit , and they are way useful.

It completely depends on what you want to do with your character. I want my main to do pure damage, so I’ve been pumping a lot of power and precision into his building. I have domination and dueling as my trait trees (level 36 right now), and the damage output I do is great.
I also like to empower the illusions, they can hurt a lot, but given the weapons I use (GS, 2xSword, Pistol) i stack Power, Precision and Toughness… i’ve been thinking if that toughness is really worth stacking instead going full power/precision/+% crit damage
For traits, I started going Power/Precision/Condition Damage, but now I’m starting to favor the defensive stats. Some of the Chaos/Inspiration traits are just sick, especially Warden’s Feedback (makes focus skills reflect projectiles AND reduces their cooldowns). Desperate Decoy and Deceptive Evasion from Dueling are also very strong. I think Mesmers can be the one of the hardest classes to kill, and that we should take advantage of it.
As for weapons, Sword/Focus and Staff. Good DPS, great support, very hard to kill.

If you do the dungeons, toughness is very much necessary. Extra damage is worthless if you’re constantly downed.

Very much this. The first time I did dungeons, I was specced pretty much entirely Power, Precision, and Condition Damage, and I would be wiped out in like 3 hits.
Ever since switching to Power, Toughness, and Condition Damage, things have been going WAY smoother.
I’m running full Domination and Chaos, with 15 in Dueling and using greatsword + 2 swords. I want to keep doing damage and remain active and not to die too quickly.
all I focused on is shattering my illusions
I think I’ve really liked the “control” build I’ve been using. My traits focus on the last 3 trees and the keystones are the “Phantasms grant Regen” trait, and “Gain protection whenever you gain regen” trait. Couple that with the phantasmal defender skill and you’re getting 70%+ damage reduction and regen almost constantly. Lets me absorb a lot of the damage dungeon bosses put out.
I’ve been going Staff and Sword/Focus for PvP. Mainly Chaos and Illusions, the rest into Domination.
My stats are keyed mainly into Condition and Toughness. My utilities are CC’s. I control the field by mass Area-Denial, CC locking high profile targets, and coordinating mass Condition Damage onto the selected target in conjunction with teammates. Extremely effective build for SPvP.
I go for Staff Sword/Sword in both PvP and PvE and focus my traits entirely on pumping out illusions and shattering them. It’s working out rather well so far.

Thank you so much for citing this. I regained interest on my Mesmer after getting discouraged after the first few levels.
I posted my build in the forum section, feel free to check it out.
