Guild Wars 2

I’m trying to cut down on my tendency to spam alts in MMO’s, so I’ve decided to go with only one profession per armor class (for now). I’m playing a thief for medium and a warrior for heavy and I’m enjoying them thus far. So I was hoping that I could get a few opinions on which light armor profession I should choose.

I guess I’d want a character that levels fairly quickly and can stand well on its own. As far as end game considerations go, I don’t like PvP that much, so it doesn’t really matter to me how well the Mesmer, Elementalist, or Necromancer do in that arena. I would like to play a character that deals solid damage and brings good utility to dungeons.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice. I’m still new to this game and I’m loving it thus far, so I’m hoping to play a caster that can be as enjoyable as my melee characters.

PS: I guess it isn’t as important, but which race would you suggest? My thief’s a Human and my warrior’s a Charr. Would you guys go with Norn, Asura, or Sylvarri?

To be honest, the easiest one I’ve leveled has been the necro. However, I really enjoy both mesmer and ele for their mobility and burst damage. Some may something different, but thats what I’ve found. I have a necro and an ele at 80 and now I’m working on my mesmer. It really depends on how you want to play your character. I haven’t tested my ele nor my mesmer in dungeons, but I have a lot of fun with my mesmer and kinda wish I had leveled her first. She hasn’t been easy, at low levels they are really squishy, as are eles, but they have a lot to offer. My mesmer is an asura, I’ve tried other races, but it seemed to suit my playstyle best and the asura utilities are awesome. Anyhoo, thats my opinion.

You should really look at the profession mechanic (watch PVE videos?). Do you prefer to:
*be able to change your play style instantly to adjust to the situation quickly? (ele)
*spam pets that get 50% of your job done and dueling like no one else (mesmer)
*be a caster and wear a plate armor (necro)

Because damage output, utility support and survival depend mainly on build.
