I’m not raging mad here or anything but I got this Norn Mesmer I love playing and to me he looks kitten and then he creates a clown or illusion or teleports and thers always these really weak pink hearts that are the particle effect … my question is WHY? and can this be changed in an update Please… it REALLY REALLY breaks immersion very badly i feel like i running around with a legendary princess thats 8 ft tall holding a 6ft sword who spawns pink hearts…..like what in the kitten batman??

They are butterflies, and you’re trying to mess with the reason I love the class.

Stop.

Just play a different class. If you have issues playing a class with pink butterflies and pink fire for their graphics effects, then the problem is with you, not the class. And the devs certainly have more important things to do (like, hint, adding more pink butterflies ).

To the rest of the forum: Don’t you sometimes wonder how people end up playing a class when apparently, they don’t like it at all? And then they take the stance of “I don’t get it, what’s wrong with it?!” instead of “I don’t get it, what’s wrong with me?”. Because yes, having rolled a mesmer despite not liking them is certainly the devs fault.
In fact, I think they should fix it by deleting the OP’s Mesmer. Problem solved! :O

I don’t mind the pink hearts, it’s the yellow moons and green clovers that get on my nerves.

Really, I always found those adorable compared to the blue stars, now they freak me out :O

My first character and main is a Norn Mesmer.

Nothing wrong with pink butterflies. And I play shatter → I got lots of them…

The butterflies are the best part. If anything we need MORE butterflies. Maybe a class specific finisher where the Mesmer sprouts a pair of butterfly wings before nuking the downed target with a swarm of butterflies….. BUTTERFLIES!!!!!

I was actually wondering about a new set of legendary weapons where the special effects are a cloud of pink butterflies flying around the character, kind of like the spell effect of gw1’s soothing images. I think it’d be cool

I was wondering when I’d see this topic again. And as always … guy Mesmers are just that kitten manly, that they can kill you with purple and pink butterflies, and still look stylish.
I’m still personally convinced the ANet devs are huge Psylocke fans. Mindkitten? Check. Purple energy effects? Check. Butterfly imagery? Check. Obviously, Psylocke was the proto-Mesmer.

Why oh why play the class, if you’re annoyed by something you’ve seen from level 1!

OP would hate my mesmer. She has a full set of asura cultural weapons with pink swirlies to match the pink butterflies. Her “clowns” are awesome!

TBH, if twilight would alter some of the mesmers effects like the butterflies, or GS#1 into black, I maybe would consider crafting it.

I think i read somewhere about a suggestion for another elite spell that transforms you into a giant pink butterfly I’d love it although i hate transformationskills.

i think the particle color should change to the primary color of your armor. Butterflies are pretty!

ANet, do the right thing, put new shatter animations on the trading post, so this silly norn can have (pink) barbarians with 2 handed axes when he shatters his clones…

Butterflies = representation of the butterfly effect <- reference to Chaos theory. Butterflies aside I’m sure the deeper meaning is enough for most.

Pink? Maybe I’m colour blind, but I see purple? tons and tons of purple? Sure I see brighter purples like Fuchsia in contrast with the darker purples but this isn’t a bad thing, it adds more depth to the colours, and are usually short lived considering the darker stands out more, in addition to usually being the majority of the effect.

If I did have to nitpic at something the butterfly Victorian mask is a bit lame I like the profession forum emblem much more. (The purple swirl)

I always felt betterflies where tied with deceit, so they used it as the mesmer distinctive effect for that reason. Can’t find anything related to it, so maybe I just made it up?
