Q:

I would like to know why the devs consider 1 sec casting on phantasm summoning skills is adequate. I don’t want to complain about it or anything like that, i want to know how is this balanced. I just had a fractal party and by the time i got my phantas summoned most mobs were nearly dead (except for boss fights).
In pvp this is also a problem because 1 sec may not seem like much but it’s a lot when you consider the fast pace everything happens.
I think a 1/2 sec cast on phantasms is required at least on iwarden, a phantasm that after a 1 sec cast has to cast it’s own skill for a few secs more. Duelist is in the same spot.
A shorter cast time would give mesmers more control while not making them op.
Anyway i would like to know the reason behind the long cast time so i can understand it and see if it’s justified, maybe i just don’t see it.

Slow cast time provides the possibility of counter play in pvp. In pve it is not an issue, just start casting a second earlier than you have been.

this is illogical because there are many skills that have a much lower cast time, are those not counterable in pvp? Take into consideration that unlike other skills that start their effect at the moment you start casting and provide their effect while you cast them ( channeled skills ) , this is not the case with our skills.

Most skills can be dodged. Phantasms actually produce an entity on the field if the skill is not blinded or interrupted. The slower cast time produces the opportunity for counterplay.

In PvE, again, it is not an issue. If your mobs are dying before you finish the cast, then you’re simply starting your cast too late.

Er..

Casting a second earlier doesn’t remove the fact it’s still a second cast.

what about the necromancer golem in that case? That also produces an entity on the field and you can cast that without a target so there is no chance of stopping that skill.

It’s also on a 60 second cooldown, and way less useful than most phantasms.
